Barriger Endowed Professor of Transportation Studies and Professor of Supply Chain & Analytics

About the Role

UMSL invites applications for the Barriger Endowed Professor in Transportation Studies, a full-time endowed tenured position in the Supply Chain & Analytics (SC&A) Department of the Ed G. Smith College of Business. The SC&A Department offers the most comprehensive AACSB-accredited supply chain degree programs in Missouri, including a BSBA with Supply Chain Management Emphasis, an MBA with Supply Chain Management and Business Analytics Emphasis, an MS in Supply Chain Analytics, and a PhD in Business Administration with an emphasis in Supply Chain & Analytics.

The SC&A faculty are thought leaders in their fields and well-connected with the St. Louis region’s businesses. The newly launched Supply Chain Analytics Center of Excellence (SCA-CoE) provides leadership and best practices for supply chain research and education in the region and beyond, serving as a nexus of academia, industry, and government to pursue cutting-edge research, foster workforce readiness, and generate social impact.

The Barriger Endowed Professor will be an established scholar with recognized achievements in research, excellence in teaching, and an established record of external funding. Applicants should exhibit passion for applied research and an interest in multi-modal transportation, including railroads. The successful candidate will collaborate with the SCA-CoE and SC&A faculty on external research grants and class projects for experiential learning and community outreach.

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate, graduate (Master’s and PhD), and professional courses in supply chain management, transportation, logistics, and/or operations.
• Collaborate with the SCA-CoE and SC&A faculty on external research grants and experiential learning projects.
• Engage in service to the department and college, including student engagement, community outreach, and committee service.
• Mentor junior faculty and advise PhD students.
• Contribute to leadership in professional associations and advance the field of supply chain and analytics.

Requirements

• Hold a doctoral degree in Supply Chain, Operations Management, Transportation, Business Analytics, or a related field from an accredited program.
• Hold a tenured position at an academic institution.
• Recognized excellence and achievements in research.
• A proven record of generating strong external support for applied research projects.
• Teaching effectiveness in supply chain management, logistics, and/or transportation across undergraduate, master’s, doctoral, and professional education.
• Collegiality and commitment to collaboration with SC&A faculty, including mentoring junior faculty.
• Commitment to mentoring and advising PhD students.
• Excellent communication skills with students, peers, staff, and community members.
• Evidence of service and leadership in professional associations and contributions to advancing the field.

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrated interest and experience in working with the regional business community.
• Connections with the global/national professional community.
