About the role
A Barnes & Noble bookstore is a gathering place for readers and the community. As a Barista, you are an integral member of the team at the heart of our Cafés. You welcome customers in a cheerful and helpful way by greeting them, answering questions, and connecting readers with the right beverages and café items. You also help maintain the café's attractive presentation and ensure its efficient operation.
Responsibilities
- Unpack and stock deliveries, tidy the bakes case, and maintain the dining area.
- Operate registers quickly and professionally to provide excellent customer service.
- Master operational competencies, including:
- Using technology such as registers, computers, tablets, and programs efficiently.
- Developing merchandising skills to maintain café presentation and cleanliness.
- Running a register competently to serve customers quickly and reliably.
- Supporting the receiving, unpacking, and stocking of deliveries.
- Preparing food and drinks accurately using recipe guides and product spec sheets.
- Maintaining café cleanliness through daily and weekly cleaning tasks.
- Following First In First Out (FIFO) practices and dating products correctly.
- Assisting the bookfloor team when needed.
- Understanding loss prevention procedures and de-escalation techniques.
- Engage in physical activities, including prolonged standing, repetitive bending, lifting, and walking.
- Collaborate with the wider team and potentially work in other stores as needed.
- Build product knowledge of beverages, bakery, savory options, and gifting to maintain appealing presentation and support sales objectives.
- Make effective food and beverage customization recommendations to customers.
- Use café training tools and follow safety, hygiene, and sanitation guidelines.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures.
