About the Role

Baristas report to the Food & Beverage Managers and work in a seamless effort with servers, server assistants, bartenders, barbacks, dishwashers, cooks, and chefs. It is critical the person in this position possess a strong background in the art of coffee and tea making. As a barista, you will be responsible for creating memorable guest experiences. Your interactions may be brief, but your guests know they can count on you to get their day started with a smile and create their special brew to their specification.

All service team members are expected to be reliable and responsible, arriving changed, polished, and mentally ready to work on time. We emphasize treating all team members just like we treat our guests—sharing a smile, a helping hand, and a willingness to jump in to assist in any situation. You will actively develop trusting and transparent relationships with your peers on the service team and other associates of the hotel.

Responsibilities

  • Uphold and role model the company’s principles of People, Place, and Character, ensuring you always model the values that drive collaboration, intuition, and translocal hospitality.
  • Own all aspects of a Café guest’s experience from beginning to end: extend a friendly greeting, ensure accurate and thorough order details, execute requests in a timely manner, and ensure satisfaction throughout, adjusting as needed.
  • Participate in daily line-ups and quarterly all-staff meetings to develop ideas and objectives with the service team while providing constructive feedback and strategizing to overcome missed opportunities.
  • Work in an organized and clean fashion with respect for guests, peers, equipment, and workspace to create lasting impressions and strong relationships.
  • Share extensive knowledge of the coffee world with guests, using product expertise to enhance their experience and suggest relevant additions to their order.
  • Ensure products served are at peak quality, using recipes and accurate measures for consistency.
  • Responsibly account for and turn in your bank and money, ensuring accurate audits.
  • Observe and report conditions of all physical facilities to F&B Managers, Supervisors, or the F&B Director for corrections and improvements.
  • Communicate effectively with the F&B and Culinary teams to ensure guests receive their food and beverages as ordered and in a timely fashion.
  • Assist in other areas of the F&B Department as needed, including Banquets, Restaurants, Bar, and Pool.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Barista in a free-standing or hotel restaurant or café.
  • Passion for people, place, and culture of the community, as well as a love of restaurants and guest service.
  • TiPS Alcohol service certification and SafeStaff Certificate of Completion, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • Available to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Fluency in English, both verbally and non-verbally.
  • Continuous standing and walking, including negotiating wet tile floors and steps.
  • Fine motor coordination for pouring beverages and decorating coffee drinks.
  • Standing and walking continuously for 4-5 hours at a time.
  • Occasional lifting and carrying of up to 30 lbs (trays, crates, or boxes).
  • Ability to negotiate varied floor surfaces and carry items over the shoulder occasionally.
  • Hand and elbow movements for tasks such as polishing glassware, setting up tables, shaking, pouring, and mixing drinks.
  • Handling lighted candles and hot fluids (coffee and tea) continuously.
  • Ability to work in extreme temperatures, such as freezers (-10°F) and kitchens (+110°F).
