Performs a variety of barbering services at a main branch or location haircare facility for authorized military and civilian personnel.
Responsibilities
- Provides barbering hair care services for clients, including shampooing, conditioning, cutting, shaping, and styling hair to suit client preferences.
- Shaves face, styles mustaches, and trims beards.
- Massages neck, face, and scalp.
- Checks client's scalp and hair for visible disorders such as sores, abrasions, or diseases that might interfere with requested services.
- Consults with clients on their hair care needs.
- Maintains combs in solution and sanitizes equipment using chemical or physical agents.
- Ensures upkeep and cleanliness of designated work station and shop.
- Prepares shampoo and towels to minimize delays in customer service.
- Makes minor repairs on equipment, such as replacing switches, plugs, and cords.
- Operates cash register, prepares hair care chits, collects and accounts for cash received, and balances daily sales using the Salesperson's Daily Cash Report.
- Sells hair care products to clients and maintains a Daily Appointment Book by client name, time, and assigned barber.
- May open and close the shop.
- Assists with monthly inventory.
- Carries out policies of courtesy and customer service to ensure 100% client satisfaction.
- Works under general supervision, carrying out assignments independently within prescribed policies and procedures.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited school of barber culture or cosmetology.
- Possession of a valid State License in Barbering or Cosmetology.
- Candidates with a U.S. State License in Cosmetology from a state other than the position's location must obtain a valid State License in Barbering or Cosmetology in the position's state within six months of hire.
Physical Effort
- Requires continual use of both arms and legs, involving frequent standing, reaching, and light lifting (objects seldom exceed 5 pounds).
- Dexterity is required in applying manual techniques.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed inside a haircare facility with proper lighting, plumbing, heating, adequate aisle space, strong water pressure, hot water, and sufficient electric power and outlets.
- Exposure to potential cuts, burns, strains, electric shock, hair cuttings, skin conditions, common colds, and communicable diseases.
- Required to wear a smock, wash hands thoroughly and frequently with soap and water, and sanitize barbering tools after each use.
Medical Screening
All barber shop employees, including contract personnel, must be medically screened and determined to be free of communicable diseases prior to initial assignment. Screening may be performed by non-physician personnel at a designated medical clinic on base. Abnormal findings must be further evaluated by a provider.
