AC Barbers is a commission-based barber shop open 7 days a week on a high foot-traffic street at Grand and Broadway in the heart of Oakland. Located just two blocks from 19th St BART station, we’re in a well-developed, growing area near the Paramount and Fox Theaters, Lake Merritt, and numerous restaurants, offices, and bars. AC Barbers is an extension of the successful Athletic Club bar/restaurant brand and sits directly next door to a 5,000 sq ft sports bar that has already drawn thousands of patrons in its first two months. The Athletic Club is a lifestyle brand, and we’re excited to expand our services with AC Barbers, leveraging the steady flow of potential clients from the sports bar.

About the role

Our goal is to be a community-driven barbershop that blends barbering, cocktails, music, and sports. We aim to grow within Oakland’s community, challenge the traditional barbershop framework, and retain the vibe of the golden days of barbering. AC Barbers will host a diverse team of barbers and clientele, offering a comfortable, fun work atmosphere with a focus on professional growth and collaboration.

Qualifications

• Active California State Board Barber License
• Cross-over licenses encouraged
• Willingness to work with and learn about different textured hair and styles
• Comfortable with shaving (or willing to learn)
• Experience with scissor and clipper cuts
• Coloring and braiding skills encouraged
• Flexible work schedule, including weekends

• Maintain cleanliness of station and surrounding area throughout shift
• Comply with State Board regulations and standards
• Deliver excellent customer service and resolve client issues effectively

AC Barbers offers a full range of services, including:

• Scissor cuts
• Clipper work
• Beard trims

• Shaves (including traditional straight razor shaves—training provided)
• Kids cuts

Weekend pop-up services in our mezzanine/lounge area may include braiding, manicures, pedicures, waxing, and neck/back massages, provided by independent partners. Barbers are not required to perform these additional services.
