Barback - Soho House Chicago

About the role

A Barback at Soho House assists bartenders in providing quality service to all guests. You will create efficiency behind the bar by ensuring all items are stocked and easily accessible, maintaining cleanliness, preparing garnishes, and supporting bartenders to ensure smooth bar operations. A successful Barback is knowledgeable about menu items, attentive, and thrives in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Upkeep of the bar and support of bar staff to ensure guests receive a positive and memorable experience
• Assist bartenders and management in maintaining the bar’s presentation and approachability
• Stock bars with alcoholic beverages (spirits, liquor, wine, beer, garnishes, drink mixes) and non-alcoholic beverages (soda, juices, carbon dioxide)
• Stock liquor rooms with supplies including liquor, beer, wine, dry goods, and soda
• Maintain cleanliness of liquor rooms, beer coolers, and bars (sweeping, mopping, trash removal, etc.)
• Ensure all member, guest, and private events are set up for anticipated volume, including stocking beverages and paper products
• Replenish paper goods (cups, napkins, etc.) at bars
• Assist with inventory and advise on areas requiring replenishment through purchase orders
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor/manager

Requirements

• 1+ year working in F&B operations or eagerness to learn and passion for delivering results
• Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions
• Detail-oriented with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
• Basic verbal communication skills
• Ability to multitask and work well under pressure

Physical Requirements

• Ability to seize, grasp, turn, and hold objects with hands
• Ability to work on your feet for at least 8 hours
• Fast-paced movements required to navigate different areas of the club
• Ability to move, pull, carry, or lift at least 40 pounds
• Occasional kneeling, bending, crouching, and climbing as required

Pay

In accordance with Illinois law, the salary range for this role if filled within Chicago is $18.50—$18.50 USD. The range for other geographies may vary based on market differences.
