About the Role
The Bar Back stocks and maintains supplies to assist the bartender in offering prompt and courteous service, ensuring guests have an enjoyable experience. This position also maintains the cleanliness and guest-ready appearance of the outlet.
Character traits of honesty and trustworthiness are essential, as associates have access to guestrooms and property. Potential associates must pass appropriate security clearances per company policy.
Responsibilities
- Stock liquor, beer, wine, and other bar supplies
- Clean beverage equipment, glasses, and service areas
- Prepare, set up, replenish, and maintain “happy hour” buffets, if applicable
- Prepare and consistently maintain the working area and supplies in a guest-ready atmosphere, including emptying trash
- Maintain safety and security practices, with thorough knowledge of emergency procedures
- Ensure guests are provided with the highest quality product and service
- Perform other duties as assigned, provided the associate is capable
Requirements
- One year of experience in a food and beverage position (chain food and retail outlet experience preferred)
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Food Handling and Alcohol Safety certifications preferred
- Ability to perform major life activities: standing, lifting, bending, learning, reading, concentrating, thinking, and communicating
- Ability to push or pull 60 pounds unassisted and lift and/or carry 30 pounds unassisted
- Ability to stand for eight hours, bend, stretch, and reach
- Must be able to see, hear, and communicate effectively with guests and associates
Skills & Knowledge
- Friendly and professional attitude
- Ability to sell, suggest, and serve quality food and beverage items per standards
- Knowledge of company and brand operation standards
- Familiarity with area shopping, dining, entertainment, and travel directions to assist guest inquiries
- Awareness of daily hotel operations, events, and procedures
- Ability to multitask while remaining guest-service-centric
- Effective communication with guests and associates
- Ability to work as a team member in cleaning, side work, food preparation, and storage
Working Conditions
- Physical presence at the hotel is required; not conducive to telecommuting or remote work
- Standing and walking for long periods while maintaining a friendly, professional image
- May be required to work any day or shift, including weekends
