About the Role
The luxurious St. Anthony Hotel is seeking a Banquet Houseperson to join our stellar Banquets team. In this tipped position, you will set up and break down Banquet functions and serve food and/or beverages in a friendly, courteous, and professional manner according to our high standards of quality.
Situated in the heart of downtown San Antonio, the AAA Four Diamond St. Anthony Hotel overlooks Travis Park and offers easy access to trendy restaurants and historical landmarks. Opened in 1909 and designated a national historic site, our luxury hotel embodies old-world splendor with touches like Italian marble and Corinthian columns.
Responsibilities
- Follow proper payroll and uniform procedures.
- Set up Banquet rooms with equipment for functions according to contracts received from the Event Management Department (BEO’s).
- Ensure all function rooms are set up as required in a timely fashion.
- Clean all function rooms and adjacent public areas, including vacuuming, dusting, shampooing carpets, cleaning mirrors, organizing closets, and cleaning marble countertops.
- Provide additional banquet equipment such as tables, chairs, trash cans, pads, pens, and pencils for client set-ups.
- Retrieve materials, props, crates, and boxes from security and store them safely, logging them where appropriate.
- Ensure the cleanliness and orderliness of all storage rooms.
- Maintain linen stock, take dirty linen to the laundry area, and ensure linen par stock is maintained.
- Hang skirts properly and set up/skirt risers and tables as needed.
- Refresh meeting rooms during breaks, including a complete refresh at lunchtime (clean glasses, arrange chairs, refresh waters).
- Ensure rooms are completely clean and ready for the next event after each function.
- Log receipt of all packages and materials, ensuring they are delivered to the proper room on the required date and time.
- Check the Banquet Floor daily for equipment to be returned to the storeroom.
- Uphold grooming policies and serve as a positive role model to other associates.
- Attend and participate in all mandatory departmental meetings.
- Respond properly in any emergency or safety situation.
- Perform other tasks or projects as assigned by management.
- Move room partitions safely and remove tables, easels, and lollypop stands when events end if not needed.
- Support the service, kitchen, and Stewarding Department as needed (e.g., plating entrees, removing dirty glassware, cleaning up areas after receptions).
- Report to the captain or manager on duty before clocking out.
Requirements
- Must be 18 years or older to serve alcohol.
- Working knowledge of à la carte, fine dining, and white-glove practices.
- TABC certified and TIPS trained; Food Handlers certification required.
- Must be available evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Previous banquet serving experience, preferably in a resort setting, is valued.
- Ability to comprehend reading materials and speak, read, and write English.
- Maintain proper associate uniform standards and wear slip-resistant, polished footwear.
Qualifications
- Certified Food Handler (preferred).
- Alcohol Awareness Certification (preferred).
