Responsibilities

  • Familiar with federal and state rules of procedure and evidence for document format, content, filing, etc., and ensures compliance with Court rules.
  • Prepare, file, and serve documents with Federal Courts through CM/ECF.
  • Prepare and file Federal legal documents such as summonses, briefs, motions, responses, agendas, fee applications, proofs of claim, demand letters, bankruptcy petitions and other first day pleadings, schedules and SOFAs, and discovery related pleadings, for review, approval, and use by attorneys.
  • Aid with basic legal research, including locating cases, statutes, and regulatory materials; conduct fact research on the internet and private search engines, such as Westlaw and Lexis.
  • Conduct research and prepare information for various evidentiary hearings in federal court cases.
  • Collect, organize, and maintain discovery and research files.
  • Prepare documents and responses to various discovery demands.
  • Prepare for and attend trials, hearings, and depositions to support and assist the attorneys.
  • Conduct UCC searches and real property searches to determine status of liens on property and/or equipment.
  • Research public documents, including but not limited to, retrieving UCC’s, court records, Dun & Bradstreet reports, and Secretary of State filings.
  • Investigate, draft and file necessary documentation for foreign judgment collections.
  • Maintain calendars of critical case deadlines, and service lists and master case contact lists.
  • Maintain timely and accurate timekeeping records on a daily basis.
  • Handle routine calls and correspondence to and from creditors, creditors’ committee chairperson and members, attorneys, trustees, debtors, clients, and the Courts.
  • File correspondence and legal documents in office document management system.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) preferred and five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to electronically file documents with federal courts, including familiarity with PACER (Public Access to Court Electronic Records) and CM/ECF systems.
  • Computer proficiency in Windows-based software and Microsoft Office Suite applications including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook, as well as document management.
  • Excellent client service skills and ability to work on multiple matters simultaneously in an organized manner and under minimal supervision.
  • Flexibility to respond quickly and positively to shifting deadlines and/or strict deadlines, with the willingness to work flexible hours and overtime as needed, including weekends.
  • Punctuality and satisfactory attendance is imperative.
  • Excellent client service is expected.

Compensation

The national average salary range for this role is $67,000 - $113,000. Starting salary will be determined based on location, qualifications, and experience.
