About Shaftesbury

Shaftesbury is a disability charity offering care, education, vocational and rehab services. The charity also provides residential care, nursing, and supported living.

Within the education sector, Shaftesbury has one school, Shaftesbury Victoria School, and 2 further education colleges, Shaftesbury Millie College and Shaftesbury Nash College. The school is for students aged 3-19, and the colleges are for students aged 16-25. All students have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), as well as physical and/or intellectual disabilities, and some have profound and complex learning needs.

About the Role

We now have an opening for an enthusiastic and motivated Occupational Therapist to join our clinical team at Nash College.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver specialist occupational therapy assessment and intervention for young people with learning disabilities and various conditions.
  • Deliver structured individual sessions aligned to students’ therapy goals and group interventions, working alongside education staff to embed therapy into everyday learning.
  • Use evidence-informed approaches that support sensory processing, emotional regulation, participation, and independence.
  • Develop individualised intervention plans and appropriate outcome measures for students based on their needs.
  • Adapt interventions according to communication, sensory, behavioral, and physical needs.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in line with HCPC standards and organisational policy.
  • Work closely with other therapists, integrating OT with other interventions appropriately.
  • Monitor and evaluate therapeutic outcomes.

Essential Skills & Qualifications

  • Degree in Occupational Therapy with current HCPC registration and evidence of CPD.
  • Experience working with young people with learning disabilities, autism or complex needs or relevant experience with transferrable skills.
  • Ability to assess, plan, deliver and evaluate evidence-based occupational therapy interventions.
  • Strong communication and relationship building skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and work effectively with students, their families, and a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent organisational, clinical reasoning and record keeping skills with the ability to manage a varied caseload.
  • Knowledge of clinical governance, safeguarding and professional standards, with the ability to apply these effectively in practice.
