About the Role

As a Ballpark Security Lead, you will be responsible for ensuring that the San Diego Padres Security Department provides the highest level of professionalism and impeccable safety and security to all players, talent, employees, and guests of Petco Park, enabling them to positively experience America's Best Ballpark. You will accomplish this by providing operational leadership in the absence of Ballpark Security Supervisors and Managers, directing Ballpark Security Officers, coordinating daily security operations, and responding to incidents and operational needs. The Ballpark Security Lead will also serve as the designated Security Manager on Duty (MOD) for small-scale events held at Petco Park, ensuring that security operations are effectively managed and that all activities are conducted in accordance with department procedures, organizational standards, and Major League Baseball's Best Stadium Operating Practices (MLB BSOP).

Responsibilities

  • Oversee Daily Security Operations
  • Supervise 24/7 security staffing and shift coverage
  • Conduct daily shift briefings to ensure that assigned officers are prepared for their shift and receive all necessary training and information
  • Monitor Avigilon surveillance systems and coordinate incident responses
  • Ensuring security officers are trained to utilize Raven Controls Incident Management Software for all department logs, reports, equipment inventory, preventative maintenance and shift pass on reports are accurately maintained
  • Maintain accurate incident logs, investigation reports, and security audits
  • Provide regular updates to management and stakeholders
  • Supervise and lead escalated issues with patrons, VIPs, and staff professionally
  • Promote a safe and welcoming environment for all facility users
  • Assist in the development and enforcement of Security Protocols
  • Ensure compliance with organizational standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations including those outlined by the California Bureau of Security & Investigative Services (BSIS)
  • Attend necessary meetings to obtain event operations and disseminate to department staff
  • Coordinate Ballpark Security support for Padres games, concerts, and other large gatherings
  • Liaise with law enforcement, emergency services, and event organizers
  • Assist in the recruitment, training, and supervision of security staff and contractors including Allied Enhanced Protection Explosive Detection Canines
  • Conduct and participate in ongoing professional development
  • Work with the Manager, Ballpark Security and Director, Security & Transportation to implement emergency action plans for fire, medical, and active threat scenarios
  • Assist in the development of regular drills and post-incident evaluations
  • Oversee badge systems, entry checkpoints, and credentialing procedures
  • Ensure physical barriers and alarm systems are functioning properly
  • Identify vulnerabilities and recommend mitigation strategies
  • Stay informed on emerging threats and adjust protocols accordingly
  • Work with IT to ensure cybersecurity measures for security systems
  • Oversee the upkeep of cameras, alarms, and communication tools
  • Always representing the Club in a positive and professional manner
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Maintain consistent, punctual, and reliable attendance
  • Possess a high degree of discretion, integrity, professionalism, and accountability
  • Must possess effective written and oral communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to deal with all levels of personnel and the general public professionally and effectively; must be able to use initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines
  • Proficient in computer skills in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Must have a valid current driver's license with a good driving record (subject to review)
  • Must be available to work five 8-hour flexible shifts per work week (Saturday-Friday), scheduled between 5:00 AM and 10:30 PM. Weekly schedules will vary based on operational needs, Padres games, and special events at Petco Park
  • Must be available to work overtime shifts, including weekends and holidays, as needed
  • Must possess BSIS Proprietary Security Guard certification or BSIS Guard Card, or obtain within the first 30 days of employment
  • Willing and able to travel approximately 10% of scheduled shifts annually
  • Minimum physical requirements: able to travel to and gain access to various areas of the ballpark for prolonged periods of time during games and events; able to lift and transport up to 50 pounds; traverse stairs, steps and ramps
  • As a condition of employment, you must successfully complete all post-offer, pre-employment requirements, including but not limited to a background check

Pay

Per the California pay transparency law, the base pay range for this full-time position is $24.20. As a candidate for this position, your pay and related elements of compensation will be contingent upon your work experience, education, job-related skills and any other factors the San Diego Padres considers relevant to the hiring decision for this position.
