Job Summary
Operate and maintain machine(s) that shreds waste sheets/cartons and compresses and binds waste paper to facilitate handling.
Job Functions
- Safely operate a Powered Industrial Vehicle
- Truck or carry materials to baling machine
- Place materials in compression chamber of baling machine
- Move lever or electric switch, causing ram to compress material
- Thread tie bands around bale and twist or clamp ends of bands to tighten bands
- Open compression chamber doors and remove bale from machine
- Truck bales to storage area, weigh bales, and record weight
- Line compression chamber of baling machine with paper before baling
- Tie wrapping in place after baling, and mark bales
- Recognize different types of waste and bale it accordingly
- Perform other duties as assigned
Background & Experience
- Manufacturing experience preferred
- Experience operating hand jacks, electric pallet jacks, and forklifts preferred
- Must have excellent attendance
- Must be able to work independently
- Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily
Skills
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees
- Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
Education & Certifications
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required
- Company-issued Fork Truck Operator's License required
Schedule
- 8-hour shifts, Monday–Friday
- 3rd shift: Sunday–Thursday
- Overtime required, including up to 12-hour shifts and weekends
- Must be willing to work alternate schedules and overtime including early mornings, nights, and/or weekends
Physical Requirements
- Awkward and/or repetitive movements
- Ability to stand, bend, squat, climb (up to 2ft), reach above shoulder and at waist or lower, push/pull force up to 15lbs, carry, walk, and stoop occasionally (1-33% of the time)
- Ability to twist frequently (34-66% of the time)
- Ability to grasp and sit continuously
- Lifting up to 75 lbs occasionally
- Requires use of both feet
- Requires use of both hands for simple grasping, firm grasping, fine manipulation, and repetitive actions continuously
- Ability to read, write, hear, see, speak, and have agility on a continuous basis
- Reading computer screen or other electronic devices
- Use of various hand and electrical tools and equipment
- Work in areas of fluctuating temperature
- PPE required: Steel-toed/safety footwear, Safety Glasses, Hearing Protection, Cut resistant Safety Gloves, Hair Net, Beard Net
Safe Quality Food Responsibilities
- Follow all Plant rules, Processes, Hygiene, and Allergens procedures related to production of Safe Quality Foods
- Report to person of authority to record any potentially unsafe conditions which may result in unsafe foods or noncompliance to SQF related procedures
- Participate in SQF Root Cause and Corrective Actions as required
- Follow all procedures related to producing Safe Quality Foods
- Report any potentially unsafe SQF conditions or customer complaints to a person of authority
