Bakery Team Leader

About the role

Our Bakery Team Leader manages the entire bakery team and keeps it running like a well‑oiled machine. Team members and guests look to this leader for guidance to design the best birthday cake and arrange the yummiest platters for their parties. Leaders are accountable for the operating performance of the department at all times, represent the organization professionally, and promote inclusion, diversity, and dignity. Coaching, timely feedback, and development opportunities are core to the role.

Responsibilities

• Interview, select, and train Team Members.
• Direct the work of Team Members.
• Appraise Team Members’ productivity and efficiency for promotions or status changes.
• Handle Team Member issues, including complaints.
• Discipline Team Members as needed.
• Plan, distribute, and assign work among Team Members.
• Provide for the safety and security of Team Members and the store.
• Manage the department’s budget.
• Manage inventory for the department or location.
• Monitor or implement compliance measures.
• Direct, oversee, and evaluate training to reduce turnover, promote efficiency, and control labor costs.
• Provide motivational leadership focused on respect and exemplary behavior.
• Identify strengths and opportunities, think strategically for scheduling and staffing.
• Develop future leaders and nurture an inclusive environment where every Team Member has a voice.
• Maintain safety as the top priority for Team Members, guests, and products.
• Inspire the team and guests with a passion for food and a willingness to go the extra mile.
• Set and achieve aggressive sales and profit goals while managing shrink.
• Establish ongoing communication plans to keep Team Members informed and prepared.
• Communicate with the merchandising team to ensure promotions are properly conveyed.
• Make innovative suggestions to improve the business.
• Review and analyze financial, line‑of‑business, and historical reports to improve sales, profit, shrink, and labor controls.
• Oversee period inventories for accuracy and monitor weekly inventory and shrink fluctuations.

Requirements

• Experience Required: Retail work experience or Store Leader recommendation.
• Experience Desired:
  • Retail leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Successful performance as a Peer Trainer or similar role.
  • Successful performance as an in‑store champion (e.g., safety, service, wellness) or similar role.
  • Demonstrated product knowledge relevant to the bakery department.
  • Satisfactory performance and discipline record.
• Education Desired: High school diploma or equivalent.
• Certification or Licensing Required: Varies by department.
• Lifting Requirement: Up to 50 pounds.
• Travel Required: None.
• Age Requirement: At least 18 years of age.

Pay

The hiring range for this position is $20.25 – $27.00 per hour/year. This range represents the anticipated base pay for the role; actual compensation will be determined based on experience, skills, education, and location.
