Bakery Packaging Supervisor

About the role

The Bakery Packaging Supervisor oversees the daily activities and staff of the labeling and packaging stations, the pots and pans area, and the laundry area. They ensure compliance with standard operating procedures and techniques, train staff, and perform quality control checks.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures staff is trained and efficiently operating the equipment.
  • Reviews all production sheets.
  • Produces labels.
  • Schedules packaging production.
  • Performs regular quality control checks on outbound product.
  • Pays special attention to allergen protocols.
  • Responsible for finished product inventory.
  • Ensures production is ready for shipping to meet deadlines.
  • Ensures equipment is functioning correctly and alerts management to any maintenance needs.
  • Assigns duties to staff.
  • Trains staff and ensures compliance with items such as: proper and safe equipment operation, opening and closing procedures for filling, cleaning, and draining dishwasher.
  • Maintains information of what equipment can go into the dishwasher.
  • Maintains knowledge of washer and dryer operation, use of chemicals, and laundry schedules.
  • Leads and directs 10-15 student and temporary staff working in the labeling and packaging area, the pots and pans area, and laundry.
  • Lets daily cleaning of equipment in all areas and their surrounding areas.
  • Ensures compliance with sanitation guidelines and food handling and storage FDA codes and as directed by MSU’s Registered Sanitarian.
  • Works in kitchen production as needed to assist with all types of baked goods and prepared food.
  • Contributes to the success of the department as an active member of the team while performing other duties as needed in support of the department’s mission.

Requirements

  • Progressively responsible experience working in high-volume food production and/or food packaging.
  • Experience leading a team.
  • Experience operating commercial food service equipment.

Qualifications

  • Food labeling and/or packaging experience.
  • Experience with inventory.

Skills

  • Interest in the culinary arts.
  • Exercise critically good judgment concerning taste and aesthetics of food quality.
  • Work effectively and efficiently in close cooperation with CS staff in a team-oriented environment with the ultimate goal of providing excellent customer service.
  • Work well individually or on a team.
  • Exhibit strong communication skills both verbally and in writing.
  • Consistently exercise initiative and good judgment.
  • Exhibit excellent attention to detail and accurate record keeping skills.
  • Prioritize and organize workload in order to complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Quickly adapt to changing priorities.
  • Represent the department and the University to others in a professional and courteous manner.
