About the Role
Sorrel River Ranch is a Four Diamond luxury guest ranch located along the scenic Colorado River, surrounded by 2,000-foot-high cliffs, buttes, and mesas. This exclusive 240-acre riverside oasis is 17 miles from Moab, 21 miles from Arches National Park, and 43 miles from Canyonlands National Park. JJ’s Mercantile, our country store along scenic Highway 128, offers groceries including farm-fresh vegetables, eggs, butter, daily-made bread, treats, snacks, and necessities, along with curated gifts, camping gear, and branded apparel. We are seeking an experienced Pastry Chef to prepare a variety of upscale to-go foods and desserts, crafting a menu that includes sandwiches, wraps, salads, and other grab-and-go items, as well as high-quality baked treats.
Responsibilities
- Prepare a wide variety of foods including upscale to-go items and desserts following traditional and modern recipes.
- Create new and exciting items to renew our menus and engage customer interest.
- Decorate pastries using different icings, toppings, etc., to ensure beautiful and appealing presentation.
- Monitor stocks for cooking and baking ingredients and make appropriate orders within budget.
- Check the quality of materials and condition of equipment and devices used for cooking.
- Guide and motivate retail staff on food items to work more efficiently.
- Identify staffing needs and help recruit and train personnel.
- Maintain a lean and orderly cooking station and adhere to health and safety standards.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Sous Chef, Pastry Chef, baker, or in a relevant role.
- Great attention to detail and creativity.
- Organizing and leadership skills.
- Willingness to replenish professional knowledge.
- In-depth knowledge of sanitation principles, food preparation, baking techniques, and nutrition.
- Working knowledge of baking with ingredient limitations (e.g., gluten-free, sugarless menu items).
- Certificate in culinary arts, pastry-making, baking, or a relevant field.
