Bacteriology Lab Technician

Maintain Inventory and Process Samples

Maintain sufficient inventory of laboratory supplies to prevent work delays.

Accurately process samples in a time efficient manner.

Follow procedures as outlined in laboratory work instructions.

Perform assigned routine laboratory tests under direct supervision.

Prepare media and solutions used within the laboratory.

Enter samples and results into the laboratory data management system

Work Schedule and Compliance

Be willing to work weekend rotations, as necessary.

Follow company policy and meet established requirements regarding biosecurity, animal welfare, safety, ISO 17025 accreditation, and drugs and alcohol.

Maintain good laboratory hygiene in regards to the work space, equipment, or tools utilized.

Physical Requirements

• Walk/stand for extended periods of time.
• Carry/lift objects and equipment weighing up to 20lbs.
• Frequently kneel/squat.
• Safely pick up materials stored at ground level.
• Apply 50 lbs. of force to push carts.
• Conduct repetitive tasks.
• Wear work-required PPE for identified tasks, such as safety glasses, work gloves, work shoes, etc.
• Exposed at times to airborne particles, such as dust and dander.
• Exposure to chemicals, such as detergents, disinfectants, and vaccines.
• Exposure to farm related smells and foul odors.
• Exposure to blood and other bodily fluids.
• Handle samples while maintaining sample integrity.
• Remain cognizant of surroundings, task at hand, aberrant results, potential contamination, and general data collecting practices.

Biosecurity and Animal Welfare

For bio-security purposes, candidate cannot own or house any wild or domesticated avian species.

Other Conditions

• Comfortable handling farm samples while maintaining sample integrity.
• Ability to remain cognizant of surroundings, task at hand, aberrant results, potential contamination, and general data collecting practices.
