Background Investigator (Independent Contractor)

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out federal background investigations, including subject interviews and record reviews.
• Conduct interviews with references, employers, neighbors, and other sources.
• Review and analyze records (criminal, employment, education, financial, and other public records).
• Prepare accurate, thorough, and timely written investigative reports.
• Maintain strict quality, timeliness, and compliance standards.
• Handle sensitive information with confidentiality and appropriate care.
• Use government-provided systems and adhere to investigative guidelines.
• Evidence excellent time management and organizational skills.
• Work independently and manage multiple cases.
• Show proficiency with investigative reporting systems and Microsoft Office tools.

Required Qualifications

• At least one of the following:
  • 3 years of general investigative experience (military, local, state, or federal law enforcement or investigative functions) within the last 5 years and completion of “New Investigator” training and a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 year of specialized Federal background investigative experience within the last five (5) years and a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of “New Investigator” training and a bachelor’s degree.
• A favorable adjudicated (T5 or HT level) background security clearance.
• Proof of U.S. Citizenship.
