Background Investigator (FT Employee) - Providence, RI

About the role

Peraton is seeking a full-time background investigator near Providence, RI. Applicants must reside within 50 miles of the city center of Providence.

Responsibilities

• Successfully complete a full-time, 6-7 week new Investigator training (virtual and in-person) to be certified in Federal Investigative Standards for government background investigations.
• Travel daily to conduct in-person background investigations for determining employment suitability of individuals requiring access to sensitive or classified U.S. Government information.
• Schedule and conduct face-to-face interviews with subjects, neighbors, employers, friends, and family throughout the designated area.
• Perform record searches at police agencies, courthouses, educational and financial institutions, and medical/mental health facilities.
• Type and report all obtained information in a clear, concise report using a government-issued computer system.
• Work independently while collaborating with a team of Investigators and a Field Manager.

Requirements

• 4 years of general work experience or a bachelor’s degree; experience conducting federal background investigations preferred.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret eligible clearance; active federal background investigation with a T5 adjudication is preferred.
• U.S. citizenship required.
• Daily local travel and travel outside the primary work area as needed; Temporary Duty Assignments (TDY) ranging from 14–30 days away from home may be required.
• Must reside within 50 miles of Providence, RI.
• Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and sufficient motor vehicle insurance required; driving is an essential function of the job.
• Accurate and efficient typing capabilities (40+ WPM recommended) and ability to work within multiple computer programs concurrently.
• Ability to speak for extended periods, hear sufficiently for in-person and phone communication, and record/transcribe with high accuracy.
• Proficient grammar and writing skills to submit high-quality reports with minimal errors.
• Professional interaction with others, ability to write for long periods, meet attendance and punctuality expectations, and pay attention to detail during fieldwork.
• Maintain high confidentiality, ethics, and integrity.
• Professional attire required.
• Physical ability to lift and move up to 10 pounds, climb stairs, walk extensively, endure long periods of standing, and drive in adverse or night conditions.

Pay

Target hourly rate: $26.07. Salary is determined by scope, responsibilities, experience, education, knowledge, skills, competencies, geographic location, and business/contract considerations. Eligible employees may receive overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
