About the Role

As a Staff Software Engineer within the Core Automation team at Coinbase, you will play a pivotal role in architecting and developing Agentic AI systems that revolutionize operational processes. This position involves designing intelligent agents, orchestration frameworks, and measurement systems that enhance customer support and compliance operations through AI-driven automation. You will be responsible for setting the technical direction for scalable AI systems, collaborating with cross-functional teams to bring innovative solutions to life, and building foundational primitives that enable automation across multiple domains. Your expertise will directly influence Coinbase’s ability to deliver delightful customer experiences at scale while maintaining high standards for reliability and accuracy.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional experience in software engineering, with a proven track record of designing and deploying distributed systems
• Extensive experience working with large language models (LLMs) and AI/ML applications in production environments
• Deep understanding of API design, orchestration layers, and evaluation frameworks for agentic AI systems
• Familiarity with grounding, hallucination mitigation, and building guardrails to ensure AI reliability
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor engineering teams on system design, coding standards, and production practices
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively across diverse teams
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; advanced degrees preferred

Responsibilities

• Architect and develop Agentic AI systems that support Coinbase’s compliance automation and operational functions
• Design and implement foundational APIs and measurement frameworks to ensure AI agents are relevant, grounded, and deliver customer satisfaction with minimal hallucinations
• Lead the technical strategy for distributed AI systems, defining architecture patterns and strategic roadmaps in partnership with engineering leadership
• Create reusable primitives and orchestration solutions that enable scalable AI automation across multiple domains beyond initial customer support and compliance initiatives
• Mentor and guide engineering teams on best practices for AI system design, coding standards, and production readiness for large language model applications
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate AI systems into existing workflows and ensure seamless operation
• Continuously evaluate and improve AI models and infrastructure to enhance performance, reliability, and user experience
