Backend Engineer

About the role

The AI Team is looking for a mid-level Backend Engineer. This is an IC-first, hands-on role where you'll spend the majority of your time doing the engineering work, collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders, and contributing to GenAI-adjacent initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Deliver backend engineering work across Noom’s product and Agentic/AI initiatives
• Partner with cross-functional stakeholders across engineering, product, and healthcare teams to execute on defined scope and priorities
• Write and maintain scalable backend systems using Java and/or Kotlin that support Noom’s community of users
• Help continuously improve how the engineering team operates

Requirements

• 3–5 years of backend engineering experience with a strong command of Java, Kotlin, or similar languages
• Solid engineering fundamentals; you write clean, well-structured code and can take ownership of meaningful technical scope
• Able to collaborate cross-functionally to understand requirements and deliver against business priorities
• A pragmatic, adaptable mindset; you can navigate ambiguity and move fluidly across engineering projects without losing momentum

Qualifications

• Experience with backend technologies such as Spring Boot, Kubernetes, Docker, and AWS
• Knowledge of database systems like MySQL, PostgreSQL, or MongoDB
• Experience with microservices architecture and RESTful APIs
• Understanding of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines

Skills

• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Experience with version control systems like Git
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, agile environment

Pay

The base salary range for this position is $129,000–$152,000. Actual compensation is determined by job-related factors, including experience, skills, qualifications, and location. This role is based in our Princeton office with a hybrid schedule (2 days per week on-site).
