Backend Engineer

About the role

For our client, we are seeking a Backend Engineer to join the team of a leader in the Enterprise Technology space. This role will focus on designing and maintaining the backend systems that support reliable product delivery and high-traffic operations. You will work closely with engineering partners to modernize legacy components, strengthen internal APIs, and improve the performance and stability of production environments. The position also requires hands-on problem solving across development, testing, and support, with an emphasis on delivering well-tested features and resolving issues quickly.

Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available

Compensation: $100,000 – $120,000 annually

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain backend services and internal APIs in Python
• Administer and troubleshoot Linux-based production systems
• Write, optimize, and maintain MySQL queries and schemas for high-traffic data
• Leverage AI throughout the development and testing lifecycle
• Collaborate with engineers to ship reliable, well-tested features
• Contribute to modernization of legacy systems alongside modern codebases
• Manage production troubleshooting and participate in on-call rotation

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of backend development experience
• Strong expertise in Python and Linux administration
• Proficient in MySQL, including writing queries, designing schemas, and diagnosing performance issues
• Experience with AI usage across the delivery lifecycle, with understanding of model applicability
• Background in Agile development with sprint and release processes
• Proven troubleshooting skills with production issues under pressure
• Familiarity with Perl and cPanel is advantageous
