About The Role

The Backend Application Engineer role at Bright Vision Technologies offers an exciting opportunity for experienced professionals to contribute to high-performance platform development. As a senior member of the engineering team, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining foundational backend services and shared infrastructure that support hundreds of engineering teams. This remote position is ideal for individuals with a strong background in distributed systems and platform engineering who are passionate about creating scalable, resilient, and efficient backend solutions. You will work on critical components such as request routing, traffic management, data fan-out, caching layers, asynchronous job execution, and durable event processing, ensuring they operate under high traffic volumes with minimal latency and operational overhead.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline
• Six or more years of professional experience in backend or platform engineering
• Proven track record in building and operating internal platforms or shared services used by multiple engineering teams
• Strong expertise in designing distributed systems with a focus on consistency, availability, latency, and failure modes
• Proficiency in at least one major backend programming language such as Java, Go, Scala, Rust, or modern C++
• Deep understanding of high-throughput messaging, streaming, and event-driven architectures using Kafka, Pulsar, or NATS
• Solid knowledge of data storage systems across relational, key-value, document, and search workloads
• Experience leading multi-quarter platform initiatives, including stakeholder management and technical decision-making
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation and presentations
• Ability to mentor engineers and influence engineering culture through code and design reviews

Responsibilities

• Design and develop internal platform services and shared infrastructure relied upon by hundreds of engineers daily, prioritizing developer experience and operational efficiency
• Architect high-throughput, low-latency backend platforms capable of handling large request volumes with predictable performance
• Create durable, replayable event-processing pipelines and asynchronous job execution platforms to accelerate feature delivery
• Design and manage caching, rate-limiting, and request-shaping layers to protect upstream systems and support scalable workloads
• Develop platform abstractions, SDKs, and libraries that encapsulate best practices and facilitate easy consumption by product teams
• Establish observability practices, define SLOs, and conduct capacity planning to ensure reliable platform operation
• Implement multi-region, fault-tolerant, geo-distributed architectures with a focus on availability and graceful degradation during failures
• Lead incident response efforts, perform blameless post-mortems, and drive engineering improvements to prevent issues recurrence
• Define and enforce standards for API design, schema evolution, deployment, and backward compatibility
• Optimize platform performance through profiling, data-driven tuning, and algorithmic enhancements
• Collaborate with infrastructure, security, and SRE teams to ensure compliance, security, and reliability of platform services
• Mentor mid-level engineers and participate in architectural discussions to promote distributed systems maturity across teams
• Create comprehensive technical documentation, decision records, and operational runbooks for future maintainers
• Continuously evaluate emerging technologies, open-source projects, and architectural patterns for strategic adoption

Pay

Competitive salary range of $100,000–$150,000 annually.
