B Lineman - Overhead (Oncor)
Position Summary
The Class B Lineman is a safety-focused professional responsible for constructing and repairing electrical overhead distribution systems. This role involves working on energized and de-energized powerlines and may require travel to various job sites, including out-of-state locations, as needed.
About the Role
Reporting to the Foreman, the Class B Lineman performs new construction, maintenance, and repairs on overhead distribution systems. This includes installing and repairing overhead power lines, poles, insulators, conductors, and related hardware. The position also involves comprehensive knowledge of switching and tagging procedures, grounding, and handling induced voltage on both energized and de-energized lines. The Lineman must climb different structures using approved methods and equipment, work at heights, in confined spaces, and near energized equipment, and operate various overhead line equipment such as bucket trucks, digger derricks, tensioners, and pullers. Additionally, the Lineman is responsible for performing live-line work using approved glove and hot-stick techniques, troubleshooting, and fault locating.
Responsibilities
- Perform new construction, maintenance, and repairs on overhead distribution systems
- Install and repair overhead power lines, poles, insulators, conductors, and related hardware
- Comprehensive knowledge of switching and tagging procedures, grounding, and handling induced voltage on both energized and de-energized lines
- Climb different structures (wood, steel, concrete) using approved climbing methods and equipment
- Work at heights, in confined spaces, and in proximity to energized equipment
- Operate and maintain bucket trucks, digger derricks, tensioners, pullers, and other pieces of overhead line equipment
- Work outdoors in varying environmental conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, and inclement weather
- Available to work outages, storms, emergencies, including on-call rotation
- Perform live-line work using approved glove and hot-stick techniques, troubleshooting, and fault locating
- Follow all safety protocols including PPE use and possess a comprehensive understanding of insulated protective cover to isolate differences of potential
Requirements
- Three (3) years of recent overhead line experience
- Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
- Willingness to travel long distances on short notice
- Lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
- Work for extended periods at job locations, including out-of-state assignments
- Willingness to work outside of normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, emergency callouts, and overtime
Physical Demands
- Frequent standing, walking, reaching with hands and arms
- Frequent exposure to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration
- Occasional exposure to extreme conditions at construction job sites
- Exposure to loud noise levels in the work environment and job sites
- Exposure to extreme heat, cold, wet, windy, and storm conditions
