Position Summary

The Class B Lineman is a safety-focused professional responsible for constructing and repairing electrical overhead distribution systems. This role involves working on energized and de-energized powerlines and may require travel to various job sites, including out-of-state locations, as needed.

About the Role

Reporting to the Foreman, the Class B Lineman performs new construction, maintenance, and repairs on overhead distribution systems. Responsibilities include installing and repairing overhead power lines, poles, insulators, conductors, and related hardware. The position also involves operating and maintaining bucket trucks, digger derricks, tensioners, pullers, and other overhead line equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform new construction, maintenance, and repairs on overhead distribution systems while prioritizing safety.
  • Install and repair overhead power lines, poles, insulators, conductors, and related hardware.
  • Comprehensively understand and apply switching and tagging procedures, grounding, and induced voltage control on both energized and de-energized lines using appropriate tools and test equipment.
  • Climb different structures (wood, steel, concrete) using approved climbing methods and equipment.
  • Work at heights, in confined spaces, and near energized equipment.
  • Operate and maintain bucket trucks, digger derricks, tensioners, pullers, and other overhead line equipment.
  • Work outdoors in varying environmental conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, and inclement weather.
  • Available to work outages, storms, emergencies, including on-call rotations.
  • Perform live-line work using approved glove and hot-stick techniques on energized lines, including troubleshooting and fault location.
  • Follow all safety protocols, including personal protective equipment (PPE) use and possess a thorough understanding of insulated protective gear to isolate differences of potential.

Requirements

  • Three (3) years of recent overhead line experience.
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
  • Willingness to travel long distances on short notice.
  • Lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Work for extended periods at job locations, including out-of-state assignments.
  • Willingness to work outside of normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, emergency callouts, and overtime.

Physical Demands

The physical demands of this job include standing, walking, using hands and fingers to handle objects, operating tools or controls, reaching with hands and arms. Frequent exposure to loud noises and extreme weather conditions is common. The job requires frequent communication through talking, listening, and using hand signals.
