Job Title Azure Cloud Systems Engineer Overview The Azure Cloud Systems Engineer is a hands-on technical professional responsible for provisioning, maintaining, and securing infrastructure within the Azure Government Secret environment. This role involves deploying workloads using Infrastructure as Code, managing patch and image lifecycles, and ensuring secure transfer of software packages and updates. The engineer will also monitor operational health, troubleshoot issues, and implement fixes to support mission-critical cloud operations. This position offers the opportunity to work on complex cloud systems that directly support national security objectives. Education Requirements BA/BS and 8 years of experience in Information Technology is required for this role. Certification Requirements There are no certification requirements for this role. Clearance Requirements Secret clearance is required. Work Arrangement On-Site Responsibilities Write, validate, and deploy Azure Resource Manager (ARM) templates, Bicep files, and Terraform modules to deploy Virtual Networks, Virtual Machines, Azure Storage, and Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) clusters on SIPRNet. Execute OS-level updates and security hotfixes using Azure Update Manager; maintain, version, and deploy hardened Windows and Linux images via Azure Compute Gallery. Facilitate manual transfer, verification of cryptographic hashes, and ingestion of software packages, container images, and security patches from unclassified repositories into the isolated Azure Secret enclave following strict transfer protocols. Manage and validate daily Azure Backup policies, geo-redundancy configurations, and Site Recovery replication jobs; troubleshoot storage sync and compute performance alerts. Resolve network security group rules, route table issues, Azure DNS failures, identity sync errors, and VM operational faults. Implement network segmentation, RBAC role assignments, Azure Key Vault secret/key rotations, and disk encryption sets. Participate in morning operational stand-ups to review alerts, failed backup jobs, scan results, and open ticket queues. Synchronize patch deployment cycles to minimize mission disruption, verifying test environments prior to production deployment on SIPRNet. Manage and execute authorized cross-domain data transfer requests for patch binaries, definitions, and container images, adhering to security protocols. Partner on weekly vulnerability remediation sprints to address Category I, II, and III vulnerabilities within prescribed DoD timelines. Required Qualifications BA/BS and 8 years of experience in Information Technology. Experience with Azure or other cloud services reinforced with architectural design experience. Demonstrated experience with Azure CLI, PowerShell, Bicep/ARM, and operating system administration. Desired Skills Experience with Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS). Knowledge of secure data transfer protocols and cross-domain transfer procedures. Familiarity with DoD vulnerability remediation processes. Strong troubleshooting skills in cloud environments. Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team setting.
