Azure Cloud Platform Engineer
Role Overview
The Azure Platform Support Engineer is a hands-on, application-focused engineer responsible for deploying, configuring, upgrading, administering, automating, optimizing, and supporting business-critical Commercial, ETRM/CTRM, Market Data, and related business applications hosted on Microsoft Azure. This role involves building deep expertise in vendor application architecture, infrastructure dependencies, and operational requirements. The engineer will support applications on Azure platforms that are provided and governed by Enterprise Cloud Engineering.
Responsibilities
- Install, deploy, configure, upgrade, patch, and administer Commercial, ETRM, Market Data, and vendor applications across nonproduction, disaster recovery, and production environments.
- Own application-platform readiness, configuration, reliability, performance, and lifecycle execution on Azure infrastructure.
- Develop deep product knowledge of application components, services, databases, integrations, and recovery requirements.
- Collaborate with Application Development, Business SMEs, Vendors, and various Engineering and Management teams.
- Deploy and configure applications on Azure Windows Server VMs, including services, IIS, and schedulers.
- Administer application workloads on Azure SQL Managed Instance, including database deployment and diagnostics.
- Translate vendor architecture requirements into repeatable build, validation, and transition plans.
- Build and maintain GitHub Actions workflows for installation, release orchestration, and configuration.
- Develop PowerShell and other scripts for environment setup, health checks, and recurring tasks.
Required Qualifications
Education: A bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, Management Information Systems, or a related field is required. Equivalent practical experience will be considered.
Experience: Candidates must have 5+ years in application platform engineering, DevOps, application operations, or a related technical field. This includes 3+ years of hands-on experience supporting Azure-hosted Windows and SQL-based business applications.
Technical Skills:
- Hands-on administration of applications on Azure Windows Server VMs and Azure SQL Managed Instance.
- Experience installing, configuring, upgrading, and supporting vendor or enterprise applications.
- Practical expertise with GitHub Actions, Terraform, PowerShell, Git, and CI/CD.
- Working knowledge of Windows services, IIS, scheduled tasks, certificates, and SQL diagnostics.
- Demonstrated skills in performance tuning, capacity planning, and root cause analysis.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with energy trading, ETRM/CTRM, Market Data, or related platforms.
- Experience with RightAngle, TriplePoint, PlanLogic, Endur, ZEMA, or comparable vendor applications.
- Knowledge of Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Splunk, REST APIs, or enterprise schedulers.
- Familiarity with ITIL, change governance, SOX controls, and disaster recovery.
- Associate-level certification such as AZ-104, SAA-C03, or AZ-204.
