AWS Cloud Engineer - Storage Specialist
About the role
The AWS Cloud Engineer - Storage Specialist will design and implement scalable storage solutions using AWS services including S3, EBS, EFS, FSx, and Storage Gateway. Responsibilities include developing storage strategies, deploying and managing infrastructure, implementing security measures, and optimizing performance.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement scalable storage solutions using AWS services including S3, EBS, EFS, FSx, and Storage Gateway
- Develop storage strategies that optimize performance, cost, and data lifecycle management
- Create and maintain storage architecture documentation and best practices
- Deploy and manage AWS storage infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation)
- Maintain storage performance, capacity, and costs using CloudWatch and third-party tools
- Implement automated backup and disaster recovery solutions
- Manage data migration projects between on-premises and cloud environments
- Implement storage security best practices including encryption at rest and in transit
- Configure IAM policies and access controls for storage resources
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements
- Conduct regular security assessments and remediation
- Analyze storage usage patterns and implement cost optimization strategies
- Troubleshoot storage performance issues and implement solutions
- Optimize data transfer and access patterns for improved application performance
Requirements
- 3-5 years of experience with AWS cloud services, specifically storage solutions
- Proficiency with AWS storage services: S3, EBS, EFS, FSx, Storage Gateway, DataSync
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK)
- Strong understanding of networking concepts and VPC configuration
- Knowledge of backup and disaster recovery and life-cycle management strategies
- Experience with monitoring and logging tools (CloudWatch, CloudTrail)
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate certification
- Additional AWS specialty certifications in storage or security (plus)
Qualifications and Knowledge Required
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
- Strong scripting skills (Python, Bash, PowerShell)
- Experience with version control systems (Git)
- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
- Strong communication and documentation abilities
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with hybrid cloud storage solutions
- Knowledge of data governance and compliance frameworks
- Familiarity with containerization technologies (Rancher, Docker, Kubernetes)
- Experience with database storage optimization
- Previous experience in a DevOps or Site Reliability Engineering role

Pay
The base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, corporate and functional title and duties, job-related knowledge and advanced degrees, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, discretionary awards and eligibility for commissions for applicable sales roles in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
