About the role

The Catastrophe Risk Advisory unit within Guy Carpenter seeks an Assistant Vice President or Vice President, Catastrophe Risk Analyst, to advise clients on reinsurance evaluation, decision-making, and placement using advanced tools. This role is hybrid, requiring at least three days a week in the office.

Responsibilities

  • Manage catastrophe modeling projects from start to finish.
  • Contribute to impactful discussions with clients on reinsurance strategy, underwriting support, pricing adequacy, and portfolio management.
  • Act as the catastrophe risk expert as part of account teams.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with brokers, clients, reinsurers, and colleagues.
  • Respond promptly to client queries and concerns.
  • Develop knowledge in specific region-based or peril-based areas of catastrophe risk management through research or experience.
  • Participate in or lead internal initiatives, offering ideas and feedback to improve outcomes and contribute to Guy Carpenter's thought leadership and industry expertise.

Requirements

  • 2 - 12 years of experience with various catastrophe models.
  • Robust data management skills, including ability to manipulate, interpret, and extrapolate complex data; familiarity with data storage and manipulation tools such as Data Bricks, MS SQL, Python, R, etc.
  • Superior communication and presentation skills, including the ability to translate complex technical analysis and concepts into easily understandable terms for brokers and clients.
  • Fundamental knowledge of the reinsurance industry, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Qualifications

  • Reinsurance experience.
  • Experience at a reinsurance broker.
  • Practical experience applying AI techniques (including machine learning and modern large-language models) to automate processes.

Pay

The base salary range for this role is $79,500 to $145,800, with decisions made on a case-by-case basis based on experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and applicable minimum wage requirements. Performance-based incentives may also be available.

Schedule

This role is hybrid, requiring at least three days a week in the office. Office-based teams will identify at least one "anchor day" per week on which their full team will be together in person.
