AVP/VP, Catastrophe Risk Analyst
About the role
The Catastrophe Risk Advisory unit within Guy Carpenter seeks an Assistant Vice President or Vice President, Catastrophe Risk Analyst, to advise clients on reinsurance evaluation, decision-making, and placement using advanced tools. This role is hybrid, requiring at least three days a week in the office.
Responsibilities
- Manage catastrophe modeling projects from start to finish.
- Contribute to impactful discussions with clients on reinsurance strategy, underwriting support, pricing adequacy, and portfolio management.
- Act as the catastrophe risk expert as part of account teams.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with brokers, clients, reinsurers, and colleagues.
- Respond promptly to client queries and concerns.
- Develop knowledge in specific region-based or peril-based areas of catastrophe risk management through research or experience.
- Participate in or lead internal initiatives, offering ideas and feedback to improve outcomes and contribute to Guy Carpenter's thought leadership and industry expertise.
Requirements
- 2 - 12 years of experience with various catastrophe models.
- Robust data management skills, including ability to manipulate, interpret, and extrapolate complex data; familiarity with data storage and manipulation tools such as Data Bricks, MS SQL, Python, R, etc.
- Superior communication and presentation skills, including the ability to translate complex technical analysis and concepts into easily understandable terms for brokers and clients.
- Fundamental knowledge of the reinsurance industry, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Qualifications
- Reinsurance experience.
- Experience at a reinsurance broker.
- Practical experience applying AI techniques (including machine learning and modern large-language models) to automate processes.

Pay
The base salary range for this role is $79,500 to $145,800, with decisions made on a case-by-case basis based on experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and applicable minimum wage requirements. Performance-based incentives may also be available.
Schedule
This role is hybrid, requiring at least three days a week in the office. Office-based teams will identify at least one "anchor day" per week on which their full team will be together in person.
