Compensation Overview

The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards. Salary Range $186,900.00 - $308,300.00 Target Openings 1

The Assistant Vice President of Architecture will report directly to the Chief Architect and help shape the long-term strategy for this area. This is a rare opportunity — to meet the scale and ambition of a Dow 30 insurer that is serious about data.

What Will You Do?

  • Scope: Responsible for leading one or more architecture teams within one or more major segments or domains for a single business unit.
  • Techical Execution: Define target state technology architecture and roadmaps. Ensure alignment of initiatives to target state, enterprise standards and business objectives. Proactively identify opportunities to capitalize on technology advances through analysis of key industry and technology trends to assess potential impact on the enterprise.
  • Define and lead large technology proof of concepts to ensure feasibility of architecture solutions. Champion continuous transformation to optimize business and technology outcomes, including to minimize technical debt.
  • Strategic Accountability: Provide strong thought leadership in pursuit of modern architecture principles and technology modernization. Engage closely with and influence senior leadership within Technology and Business to develop architecture priorities and direction to enable business imperatives. Foster an ongoing partnership with Technology leadership to build strong relationships with engineering to ensure proper alignment of skills with technology direction.
  • Optimize talent strategy to ensure proper mix of resources. Proactively attract, develop, engage, and retain high performing talent. Set clear goals, provide ongoing feedback, and hold talent accountable. Promptly address performance issues.
  • Prepare and deliver comprehensive communications to convey architectural direction and how it aligns to business strategy. Shape organizational relationships and inspire buy-in.

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?

  • Technical Expertise & Education: Bachelor’s in technology related field or equivalent, with 10+ years of architecture experience. Advanced level architecture and recent hands-on strong engineering experience with modern technologies. Successful creation and execution of complex, large scale technology strategies and initiatives. Leadership & Influence: Extensive executive leadership experience with a proven ability to shape and influence enterprise-wide technology strategy and business decisions. The ideal candidate will have a strong record of leading the development of strategic technology direction and architecture vision for their area of responsibility, as well as managing and mentoring technology architects and engineers to deliver impactful results. They should demonstrate the ability to align multi-team goals and architectural strategies with the organization’s mission and long-term objectives, while effectively balancing strategic planning with day-to-day operational needs. Advanced leadership skills are essential, including the ability to coach and develop senior talent, foster collaboration across engineering and business functions, and drive innovation through thought leadership and empowerment. This individual will be a visible, trusted executive who models organizational values, builds enterprise credibility, and inspires teams to deliver transformative business and technology outcomes. Strategic & Business Acumen: Extensive experience working an agile operational model. Advanced experience supporting transformational change. Able to adjust plans, priorities and strategies in response to changing circumstances. Experience developing technology target states and roadmaps that align to short- and long-term business goals. Insurance technology experience preferred. Advanced understanding of value creation and business capability models. Advanced knowledge of the insurance industry. Advanced experience identifying and analyzing current/future problems and opportunities, valuating information to understand root causes, and exploring alternative solutions for effective decision-making. Proven ability to work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve mutually responsible results. Extensive experience exercising sound judgment, making decisions and committing to a position. Advanced and effective verbal, written and listening communication skills.
  • Must Have: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, related STEM field, or its equivalent in education and/or work experience. 8 additional years of architecture/software engineering experience. 3 years of technical leadership experience.
