Responsibilities
- Strong collaboration with Underwriting teams, Insurance Leadership and all company functions to ensure all business groups have clear underwriting guidance and standards of underwriting governance.
- Design, implement and monitor critical governance controls across all Insurance lines of business.
- Support key stakeholders across all Insurance lines of business as well as the centralized capabilities to drive efficiency and excellence.
- Cook up post-bind peer reviews of underwriting files, participate in bi-annual departmental underwriting audits and assist in the review of business unit underwriting guidelines.
- Help develop and then lead internal systems to support key governance processes including an internal review framework and underwriting statements of authority.
- Support new product innovation including development of Product Innovation framework, workflows, processes, and reports.
- Manage communication between the Chief Underwriting Office and other Vantage stakeholders and serve as coordinator of intracompany SharePoint site resources.
- Design metric dashboards and tools for management reporting.
- Provide timely support of various procedures / processes including capturing issues / risks, action items and solutions.
- Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred (e.g., CPCU and/or other industry designations a plus).
- Significant commercial underwriting experience (7+ years preferred), with demonstrated strength in technical underwriting judgment.
- Working knowledge of underwriting governance (guidelines, authorities, referrals, documentation standards) and the operational workflows that support strong controls.
- Experience performing (or supporting) underwriting file reviews, peer reviews, and/or audit activities, able to assess adherence to guidelines and identify root causes and trends.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and coach underwriters and partners supporting skill development in technical underwriting, documentation, and guideline adherence.
- Steady, collaborative leadership style; comfortable leading through influence, sharing best practices, and helping teams adopt consistent standards and controls.
- Clear, practical communicator, able to document findings, deliver constructive feedback, and influence stakeholders on underwriting quality and consistency.
- Strong organization and follow-through, comfortable managing multiple reviews, deadlines, and cross-functional coordination with minimal supervision.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint (and Word) for analysis, audit workpapers, and management reporting; comfortable working with dashboards/metrics.
