AVP, Commercial Credit Policy & Governance Manager
About the role
The AVP, Commercial Credit Policy & Governance Manager is responsible for executing and maintaining the Commercial Credit Policy and Governance framework to ensure effective risk oversight, regulatory alignment, and consistent governance practices across the Commercial Bank. This role oversees day-to-day policy lifecycle management and credit committee governance execution, including ownership of Management Credit Committee and Directors Credit Committee processes, document governance, and coordination of committee materials.
Responsibilities
- Execute and maintain the Commercial Credit Policy and Governance framework, including policy development, periodic review, approvals, issuance, and version control
- Provide day-to-day guidance to first- and second-line partners on Commercial Credit Policy requirements, interpretations, and governance standards
- Coordinate and drive timely review and approval of Commercial Credit policies, guidelines, and related governing documents to reduce backlog risk
- Identify and implement improvements to policy clarity, usability, and governance efficiency
- Own end-to-end execution of Management Credit Committee (MCC) and Directors Credit Committee (DCC) governance processes
- Oversee the MCC Secretary function, including meeting calendars, packet coordination, quality control, and submission timelines
- Ensure committee materials meet governance standards and clearly articulate risk considerations, policy impacts, and decision points
- Maintain accurate records of committee decisions, approvals, and action items in accordance with governance requirements
- Track implementation of approved policy requirements and escalate governance or control gaps as appropriate
- Partner with Compliance, ERM, and Internal Audit to support audits, examinations, and issue remediation related to credit policy and governance
- Act as a primary governance point of contact for committee members, presenters, and cross-functional stakeholders
- Manage and develop a small governance team, reinforcing accountability, attention to detail, and a strong risk culture
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Risk Management, Accounting, or a related field
- 5–7+ years of experience within a financial institution, with demonstrated exposure to Commercial Credit, Credit Policy, Governance, or Credit Operations
- Strong working knowledge of Commercial Credit products, credit risk fundamentals, and policy governance frameworks
- Prior experience supporting management-level and/or board-level committees, including coordination of meeting materials and governance documentation
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex workflows, multiple deadlines, and cross-functional stakeholders in a fast-paced environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce executive-ready materials and clearly articulate risk and governance considerations
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, with experience preparing committee packets and governance documentation
