AVP, Associate General Counsel – Agribusiness
About the Role
Join Nationwide’s Legal team and support a Fortune 100 company with nearly $70 billion in annual sales by delivering innovative legal solutions. As an Associate General Counsel, you will provide top-quality legal services to Nationwide Agribusiness, working closely with the Office of the Chief Legal Officer (OCLO), business leaders, and senior executives to evaluate the legal impact of corporate strategies and opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Lead legal support for the most complex business risks and opportunities within Nationwide Agribusiness.
- Serve as primary business unit counsel for Nationwide Agribusiness, assessing legal risks tied to strategic opportunities.
- Engage with senior leadership (President, SVPs, VPs, AVPs) on Agribusiness Distribution, Underwriting, and Sponsor Relations to coordinate risk mitigation.
- Leverage business unit knowledge to direct OCLO support, identifying and assessing potential legal risks in alignment with business objectives.
- Serve as a member of the P&C Legal Leadership team, driving strategic priorities such as enabling a world-class underwriting company, talent development, and data & technology adoption.
- Lead cross-team collaboration within the P&C Legal team on high-importance projects.
- May perform other assigned responsibilities as needed.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctorate (JD) from an American Bar Association-accredited law school.
- Fully licensed in accordance with OCLO policy, in good standing, and compliant with all continuing legal education requirements in the state(s) of practice.
- Minimum fifteen years of deep insurance underwriting, distribution, and regulatory experience.
- Extensive experience in and exposure to multiple insurance businesses is preferred.

- Analytical ability to interpret statutes, regulations, insurance policies, and contracts.

- Ability to coach and support team members while fostering engagement across P&C Legal teams.
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to raise concerns, provide constructive feedback, and navigate tough conversations.
- Extensive understanding of P&C Insurance.
- Awareness of internal and external resources to accelerate trend analysis and provide practical, risk-balanced advice.
Reporting Relationships
Reports to the SVP, P&C Legal. Manages a team consisting of a Senior Counsel, administrative assistant, and paralegal.

Pay
The national salary range for this role is $175,000–$326,000. The expected starting salary range is $175,000–$291,000, with placement determined by skills, education, experience, scope of the role, and market conditions.
Schedule
Exempt (not eligible for overtime). Normal office environment.
