Avionics Test Engineer, Avionics - Amazon Leo
About the role
Amazon Leo is Amazon's low Earth orbit satellite network. Our mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks—from individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, and government agencies. As an Avionics Test Engineer you will combine superb technical capabilities with a demonstrated ability to get the right things done quickly and effectively. You will work with a team of top‑notch engineers and collaborate with multiple spacecraft design, test, and operations teams, solving problems that have not been solved at scale before.
Responsibilities
- Define requirements for test methods used in design verification and qualification test campaigns.
- Develop test methods and automated test‑station hardware for engineering labs and production test environments.
- Develop and execute design verification test and qualification plans on complex avionics used for space vehicles.
- Influence product design for manufacturing and test efficiency (DFM, DFT).
- Provide training and improve work instructions for liaison engineers to reduce repeat design‑engineering support.
- Design, maintain, and update test‑station documentation, including troubleshooting guides and work instructions.
- Improve test stability, reduce test time, and guarantee the quality of measurement data.
- Work with quality and manufacturing engineering teams to ensure high‑quality space‑flight hardware.
- Execute test‑rack commissioning for new production test stations or upgrades due to design revisions.
- Collaborate with liaison engineers to troubleshoot and repair test set‑ups.
- Develop reporting tools on manufacturing key performance indicators (KPIs).
In a typical day, you will develop test solutions for qualification, design verification, and production test of satellite avionics hardware Line Replaceable Units (LRUs). You will be responsible for testing designs, creating production test solutions for both local manufacturing and contract manufacturers, and working with electrical engineering, liaison engineering, test software, and manufacturing teams to root‑cause issues for both PCBAs/LRUs and test systems. You will strive for process excellence, improve yield and efficiency, provide training for manufacturing technicians, and co‑develop and sign off on manufacturing procedures.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or above in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent.
- Experience with general troubleshooting/debugging of hardware, or experience in computer architecture.
- Experience with schematic and layout ECAD tools.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years of hardware development, test‑lab, space/aerospace maintenance, or hands‑on engineering environment experience.
- 1+ years of integration, testing, and automation experience.
About the Team
Our team designs, tests, and delivers avionics subsystems such as the flight computer, power management and delivery, RF, and sensing subsystems on the satellite bus. We also design and deliver the test systems that enable qualifying and acceptance testing of these hardware subsystems. We take ownership and work hard to deliver the highest quality solutions to support the long‑term success of Amazon Leo, helping bring broadband internet to underserved communities.
