Avionics Technician I, MQ-9 (Kaneohe Bay, HI)

About the role

The USMC MQ-9 CLS Technician is a qualified and skilled aircraft electronics and Ground Support Station technician with experience in troubleshooting multiple electronics systems both aircraft and control stations. Work may be reviewed by supervisor for general compliance with accepted practices.

Responsibilities

• Maintain assigned UAS electrical and computer systems, including relays, batteries, actuators, circuit breakers, switches, instruments, and peripherals.
• Apply advanced technical knowledge to solve complex problems that typically cannot be solved solely by referencing manufacturers’ manuals or similar documents, such as determining the location and density of circuitry, evaluating electromagnetic radiation, isolating malfunctions, and incorporating engineering changes.
• Utilize understanding of the interrelationships of circuits, exercising independent judgment in performing tasks such as making circuit analyses, calculating wave forms, and tracing relationships in signal flow, using complex test instruments (e.g., high frequency pulse generators, frequency synthesizers, distortion analyzers, and complex computer control equipment).
• Prioritize workload to meet Daily Flight Schedule using excellent organizational skills.
• Make entries in aircraft logs and records, and attend shift change maintenance meetings.
• Apply advanced technical knowledge to solve unusually complex problems affecting operational and maintenance capabilities, requiring an advanced understanding of the interrelationships of circuits and associated systems.
• Exercise independent judgment and leadership in performing assigned tasks in conjunction with designated direction from Production Staff and/or Avionic Leads.
• Use common and complex test instruments in the performance of assigned duties.
• Sign off work in OOMA/NALCOMIS.
• Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of CNAFINST 4790.2.
• Maintain, repair, and install various types of electronic equipment and related devices.
• Apply advanced technical knowledge of electronics principles in determining malfunctions and restoring equipment operations.
• Inspect and operate ground support and auxiliary equipment.
• Achieve a passing grade in all required courses/certifications for continued employment, as needed.
• Lift, carry, and/or wear Military Issued Equipment in excess of 50 pounds for extended periods.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Active Secret US Government clearance (US Citizenship required to obtain).
• Eligibility for Top Secret Clearance with SCI.
• Minimum of one year of actual Aircraft Avionics and/or Ground Control Station (GCS) maintenance experience.
• High School Diploma or completion of relevant military and/or vocational technical school curriculum.
• Advanced knowledge of basic and complex electronics maintenance and repair.
• Advanced knowledge of RFF systems, components, and accessories.
• Advanced knowledge of technical publications related to electronics maintenance.
• Understanding of theory and principles of operation of engines, accessories and components, theory of flight and electronic flight controls, and thorough understanding of electrical and electronic principles.
• Capability to use and read blueprints, wiring diagrams, and data tables.
• Eligibility to gain and maintain one of the following IAT Level II certifications within 90 days of hire or before second deployment: CCNA Security, CySA+, GICSP, Security+ CE, SSCP, or GSEC, IAW DOD 8570.01-M.
• Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English.
• Submit updated SF-86 within 30 days of hire start date.
• Current/active State Issued Driver’s License.
• Ability to work a variety of shifts, including nights and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications

• Current Top Secret Clearance with SCI eligibility.
• Associate degree in a relevant career field.
• Current IAT Level I Certification.
• Prior experience as a Defense Contractor.

Pay

Hourly rate: $37.94. The compensation range or hourly rate listed is a good-faith estimate at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as job responsibilities, education, experience, skills, internal equity, market data, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and relevant laws.

This position falls under the Service Contract Act (SCA). In addition to your base hourly rate, you may be eligible to receive an additional health and welfare payment for each hour worked to ensure compliance with SCA minimums. The amount varies depending on fringe benefits selected.
