About the role
As an Avionics Technician V, you will serve as a subject-matter expert in Aircraft ISR integrations and act as a strong mentor to junior technicians. You will perform avionics maintenance according to FCC, FAA, and company policies, overseeing and teaching installation, testing, troubleshooting, and repair of avionics components, and maintaining test equipment, tools, and manuals.
Responsibilities
- Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for avionics maintenance and ISR integrations
- Oversee and instruct junior technicians in installation, testing, troubleshooting, and repair of avionics components
- Maintain test equipment, tools, and manuals
- Perform hands-on harness assembly and aircraft modification, including harness routing, connector termination, ring-out, and functional testing
- Terminate connectors: COAX, CIR-MIL, RJ-45 Network, D-SUB
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent and typically 15 or more years of relevant experience (a higher-level degree may substitute for experience; related experience may be considered in lieu of required education)
- Must have own tools in good working order
- Ability to understand and interpret complex technical schematics, diagrams, blueprints, manuals, and publications
- Proficiency in avionics installation tooling, wiring, wiring repair, wiring installation, soldering, and crimping techniques
- Basic understanding of spectrometer, oscilloscope, and/or Pitot static equipment
- Frequent walking, sitting, standing, climbing stairs, and steps
- Frequent repetitive hand, arm, and finger motions requiring dexterity
- Frequent vision requirements: close, distance, depth perception, and color differentiation
- Frequent hearing requirements: discerning different tones and volumes
- Occasional lifting or carrying up to 50 lbs
Working Conditions
- Frequent exposure to outdoor elements (high/low temperatures, sun, rain, snow)
- Frequent exposure to fumes or hazardous chemicals/materials
- Frequent exposure to loud noises
- Safety-sensitive position: responsible for the safety or security of people or property; inspects, handles, or transports explosives, dangerous or hazardous materials; inspects structures, equipment, or vehicles; performs aviation-related duties; operates or supervises vehicles, heavy or dangerous equipment or machinery
Skills
- Wire routing per technical drawings
- Preferred: prior experience in a Lead role with mentoring, training, and inspecting subordinates’ work
- Preferred: familiarity with FCC and FCC GROL
- Preferred: background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry, US Department of Defense, or US Military
- Preferred: experience with TRIAX, QUADRAX, fiber-optic assemblies, and El Ochito RF connectors
