Avionics Sr Harness Design Engineer

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. We are building sustainable infrastructure for the transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.
As part of a small, passionate, and accomplished team of experts, you will lead the electrical and mechanical harness design for a module of the Mk1 vehicle. In this role, you will develop wiring interconnect diagrams (WID), harness assembly drawings, and harness installation drawings. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.
Responsibilities
- Design of electrical harnesses for power distribution, RF, communication, and high-speed data signals
- Select harness components and hardware, including connectors, backshells, cable, and wire
- Create wiring diagrams utilizing Zuken E3
- Create 3D routed harness data files utilizing Creo (Pro/Engineer) Cabling
- Create harness detail and installation drawings, including 2D flat harness drawings from the 3D harness data sets
- Design and integration of harness support brackets
- Support design configuration development and trade studies
- Provide technical guidance for hardware installation
- Support the assembly and testing of cables and harnesses
- Report on activity schedule and technical status
- Identify opportunities for technical improvements
- Informally mentor and train less experienced harness engineers
Qualifications
Required
- B.S. in Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical, Physics, Computer Engineering, or related technical subject area
- 10+ years of experience designing wire harnesses for the aerospace industry
- Familiarity with Creo, Zuken, or Windchill, or experience with other high-end CAD routing software such as Unigraphics NX Electrical or Catia
- Understanding and application of wire derating analysis
- Working knowledge and experience applying harness design and manufacturing standards: IPC/WHMA-A-620A, NASA-STD-8739.4, SAE AS50881
- Strong electrical/mechanical design and integration skills using 3-D CAD software
- Design for manufacturability experience
Preferred
- Proficiency with Creo, Zuken, and Windchill
- Knowledge of harness fabrication and installation processes
- Experience with launch vehicle or spacecraft electrical/mechanical systems
- Experience with GD&T and ASME drawing practices
Pay
- CA applicants: $145,188.00 - $203,263.20
- CO applicants: $133,500.00 - $186,898.95
- WA applicants: $145,188.00 - $203,263.20
