About the role

West Star is the fastest growing maintenance repair organization in the industry. Our Avionics Maintenance Technicians troubleshoot and repair problems to the component level on avionics units (e.g., Navs, Coms, Pulse, Radar, Audio and Autopilot Systems) and aircraft systems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general avionics support items on aircraft, including removal and installation of panels and components and repair work.
  • Troubleshoot and evaluate systems on the aircraft when designated.
  • Inspect and evaluate the aircraft and components when designated.
  • Aircraft movement and performance verification of systems.
  • Maintain and repair shop facility, equipment, and tooling to support operations.
  • Work with customers in project management, pricing, and customer support roles.
  • Work independently on projects.
  • Perform any other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor or management.
  • Effectively and clearly communicate (speak, write, read) in English.
  • Use basic computer skills to navigate electronic training, manuals, and maintenance databases.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Electronics or Avionics factory training is preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license approved for airline travel and/or a valid passport is ideal, but not mandatory.
  • Self-motivated team player able to perform in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work under specific deadlines and time constraints.
  • Reliable transportation to get to work each and every day.
  • Attend work every day as scheduled, including overtime and weekend assignments.
  • Perform all work in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration guidelines.
  • Follow all company and safety rules during performance of duties.
  • Maintain customer-oriented work habits.

Experience Levels

  • Tech I: 0-2 years of experience in avionics, military avionics, or electrical field. Requires close supervision and constant check-ins on work performance.
  • Tech II: 2-4 years of experience in avionics or military avionics field. Considerable knowledge of the job with broad understanding of detailed aspects. Requires general supervision and instructions.
  • Tech III: 4-6 years of experience in avionics or military avionics field. Full knowledge of the job with complete understanding of detailed aspects. Limited supervision required; can act as a trainer or mentor.
  • Master Technician: 6+ years’ experience with corporate/business avionics systems. Subject matter expert with exclusive knowledge in all areas of the job.

Physical Requirements

  • Lift 50 lbs.
  • Routine walking, bending, squatting, or sitting.
  • Routine or repetitive physical motion with arms and hands.
  • Stand for long periods of time.
  • Climb ladders and stairs, work in small restricted areas.
  • Basic computer skills.

Mental Requirements

  • Understand and implement regulations and guidelines.
  • Troubleshoot, evaluate, and perform functional tests for various avionics and instrument systems.
  • Work with others in a professional manner.

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed in a hangar environment subject to extreme temperature variations (very cold to very hot).
  • Work outside during aircraft runs will occur.
  • Varied positions in and around the aircraft.

Equipment Used

  • Personal hand tools supplied by the mechanic.
  • Pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical equipment.
  • Jacks, stands, lifts, and other support devices.
  • Tugs, power carts, and other engine-powered equipment.
  • Crimpers, soldering iron, and heat guns.
  • Personal computer and work order prints.
