Avionics Engineer

About the role
HII Mission Technologies is seeking an experienced Avionics Engineer to support our customer at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, OH. This role requires an understanding of DoD, Air Force, and common engineering/scientific principles, processes, and procedures to translate user requirements into weapons system requirements. These requirements will be used to design, develop, fabricate, test, and evaluate weapons systems, subsystems, and equipment for eventual fielding and deployment.
Responsibilities
- Assist in performing technological and trade-off assessments of proposed designs/modifications.
- Translate user requirements into system requirements for design, development, fabrication, testing, and evaluation of systems and subsystems.
- Support the production or review of technical evaluations, plans, engineering studies, reports, analyses, and acquisition strategies such as:
- System Specifications
- RFPs
- Test Plans, Test Procedures, Test Acceptance Procedures (ATPs)
- Spectrum Supportability Determinations
- Support project team meetings, working groups, and reviews, including SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, TCM, TIM, FCA, PCA, PMR, and others as applicable.
- Analyze equipment and software deficiencies; recommend corrections; and assist in developing, integrating, and testing solutions.
- Support systems analyses, including avionics system design feasibility, state-of-the-art assessments, and developing systems/subsystem specifications.
- Provide technical advice on installing new hardware and software into systems and subsystems.
- Support and assist in performance effectiveness, cost effectiveness, life-cycle cost, producibility, maintainability, supportability, reliability, technical and schedule risk assessments, and scheduling trade-off studies.
Requirements
- Active Secret Clearance required.
- Experience in design and troubleshooting of avionics subsystems such as:
- Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning System (EGPWS)
- Transponders
- Traffic Collision Alert System (TCAS)
- Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System (ACARS)
- Very High Frequency (VHF), Ultra High Frequency (UHF), High Frequency (HF) Radios
- Distance Measuring Equipment (DME)
- Multi-Mode Receivers (MMR)
- Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR)
- Working knowledge of NAV displays, data buses (MIL-STD-1553B and ARINC-429), test planning and conduct, sustainment, and operations covering airborne vehicles’ avionics subsystems.
- Familiarity with FAA and Air Force airworthiness/certification processes and procedures.
- Working knowledge of technical documents, determining sufficiency for demonstrating compliance with specifications and airworthiness means of compliance, summarizing findings, recommending changes, and communicating results to program offices.
- Experience performing engineering evaluations of prime and subcontractor recommendations for operational and support issues, including:
- Engineering Change Notices
- Engineering Change Proposals
- Contract Change Proposals
- FAA bulletins
- Modification proposals
- Program risk and related documents
Qualifications
- Avionics Engineer 3:
- 5 years relevant experience with a Bachelor’s in a related field; or
- 3 years relevant experience with a Master’s in a related field; or
- High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years relevant experience.
Salary range: $87,305 - $124,722
- Avionics Engineer 4:
- 9 years relevant experience with a Bachelor’s in a related field; or
- 7 years relevant experience with a Master’s in a related field; or
- High School Diploma or equivalent and 13 years relevant experience.
Salary range: $109,637 - $145,000
Preferred Qualifications
- FAA Designated Engineering Representative (DER) certification with a firm understanding of FAA regulations as they apply to Airworthiness Certification for Commercial and Commercial Derivative Military Aircraft (CDMA).
- Knowledge of Military Airworthiness in accordance with AFPD 62-6 USAF Airworthiness requirements and MIL-HDBK-516C Airworthiness Certification Criteria.
- Working knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), Notices of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRMs), Airworthiness Directives (ADs), and Alternate Methods of Compliance (AMOCs) for ADs.
- Experience in the development of STC packages.
Pay
