About the role

Oswego Harbor Power Generating Station is a 2-Unit, 1800-MW rated fuel oil/natural gas fired power plant. The Auxiliary Operator 1 (AO1) oversees the safe, efficient, reliable, and environmentally sound operation of plant equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the safe, efficient, reliable, and environmentally sound operation of plant equipment.
  • Understand and execute the equipment clearance and tagging procedure.
  • Properly operate boiler, steam turbine, plant auxiliary equipment and systems during normal and emergency operation.
  • Communicate information clearly, both orally and written.
  • Aid others in performance testing.
  • Troubleshoot plant equipment to resolve operational problems.
  • Generate and review Work Requests for execution of equipment repair.
  • Operate various computer systems to receive, analyze, comprehend, and input data.
  • Monitor and record data available using various instruments, recording charts, annunciator systems and other monitoring devices onto shift logs as directed by plant operational procedures.
  • Implement Plant Emergency Procedures as needed.
  • Observe variations in operating conditions and interpret meter and gauge readings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Communicate conditions of plant system and equipment to others.
  • Apply knowledge of steam power plant operations and basic power plant principles to daily decision-making and work tasks.
  • Operate computers and printers.
  • Discern and respond to verbal and auditory signals from control panel.
  • Take, record, and analyze readings of various electrical and mechanical meters.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum of 6 months experience in plant operations or maintenance in an industrial setting or related field.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment and perform effectively without close supervision.
  • Must be computer literate and familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel, and e-mail.
  • The Successful Candidate Must Be able to perform effectively in a team environment without close supervision,
  • Can work well with and through others inside and outside of CAMS.
  • Demonstrate discretion concerning confidential and sensitive company information.
  • Work in and around rotating equipment, high voltage electrical equipment to 345KV, high noise areas.
  • Work in all temperatures and climate conditions. Some temperatures can be extreme.
  • Requires working rotating shifts and response to calls 24 hours/day, seven days/week.
  • Requires standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, climbing stairs and ladders, and entering plant equipment to access, inspect, or collect data on plant equipment.
  • Requires operation of a personal computer.
  • May be required to work around rotating and energized equipment, hazardous materials, and chemicals.
  • Occasionally requires lifting as appropriate to perform duties and responsibilities.

Summary

Qualified Applicants must possess a valid driver's license and maintain a clean driving record, as this position requires occasional travel for company business. Candidates should be comfortable operating a vehicle as part of their job responsibilities and must meet any applicable company and insurance requirements.
