About the role

The Career and Technical Institute (CTI) is seeking an enthusiastic, industry-experienced Automotive Technology Teacher to inspire and prepare the next generation of automotive professionals. We are looking for an educator who is passionate about the automotive industry, committed to student success, and eager to bring real-world experience into the classroom.

Our students learn through hands-on, project-based instruction aligned with current industry standards while developing the technical, employability, and leadership skills needed for careers and postsecondary education.

Terms of Employment

This is a full-time, 10-month, tenure track assignment. The salary is competitive and negotiable based on qualifications and experience, with a full complement of health benefits.

The Automotive Technology Teacher will report to the Principal and does not supervise any staff.

Qualifications, Experience, and Competencies

  • Minimum of four (4) years of recent full-time experience in the automotive repair industry (or equivalent as required by New York State certification)
  • Extensive knowledge of automotive diagnostics, repair procedures, and modern vehicle technologies
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively with high school students from diverse backgrounds
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe learning environment
  • New York State CTE Teaching Certification in Automotive Technology, or eligibility to obtain certification
  • ASE Master Technician Certification or multiple ASE certifications
  • Experience using diagnostic scan tools and computerized vehicle systems
  • Experience teaching, mentoring apprentices, or training employees
  • Knowledge of hybrid and electric vehicle technology
  • Knowledge or experience using Snap-on Tools

Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging, hands-on instruction in automotive technology to high school students
  • Teach automotive systems including engine performance and repair, brakes, steering and suspension, electrical and electronic systems, heating and air conditioning, manual and automatic transmissions, and preventative maintenance and inspections
  • Integrate safety procedures and OSHA standards into daily instruction
  • Prepare students for industry-recognized certifications, including ASE Entry-Level certifications
  • Develop lesson plans aligned with New York State CTE learning standards
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners
  • Assess student learning using both performance-based and written assessments
  • Maintain an organized, safe, and industry-standard automotive laboratory
  • Collaborate with colleagues, school counselors, and industry partners
  • Participate in advisory committees, professional development, SkillsUSA, work-based learning opportunities, and student leadership activities
  • Foster professionalism, teamwork, communication, and workplace readiness

Pay

The salary for this position is approximately $60,307 - $85,536, as per the BOCES Faculty Association contract.
