Description
The Automotive Technology Instructor provides classroom and hands-on instruction in automotive repair and service at both the college campus and designated local high school sites. Instruction is designed to prepare high school and adult students for entry-level employment, skill advancement, and industry-recognized certifications. The instructor supports workforce development initiatives by delivering practical, industry-aligned training in a flexible continuing education format.
Job Description
- Provide classroom and hands-on instruction in automotive repair and service at both the college campus and designated local high school sites
- Deliver workforce and continuing education courses that prepare high school and adult students for employment and industry-recognized certifications
- Demonstrate thorough knowledge of automotive systems, diagnostics, and repair procedures
- Plan, organize, and deliver instruction using a variety of methods, including lecture, demonstration, and lab-based learning
- Adept instructional strategies to meet the needs of diverse learners, including high school students and adult populations
- Establish clear learning objectives and evaluate student performance through fair and effective assessment methods
- Provide timely feedback to support student learning and skill development
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, progress, and completion in accordance with institutional guidelines
- Integrate current industry standards, safety practices, and emerging automotive technologies into instruction
- Support partnerships between the college and local high schools to promote career pathways
- Maintain a safe, organized, and industry-relevant lab/shop environment
- Collaborate with college personnel, high school staff, and workforce partners
- Encourage student success, professionalism, and attainment of industry certifications
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of 6 years of relevant industry experience in automotive repair and service
- Must possess or obtain oneof the following within six (6) months of hire:
- ASE certifications in: Brakes (A5), Electrical/Electronic Systems (A6), Auto Maintenance & Light Repair (G1), Suspension and Steering (A4)
- OR ASE Master Automobile Technician certification (A1–A8)
- ASE certifications in: Brakes (A5), Electrical/Electronic Systems (A6), Auto Maintenance & Light Repair (G1), Suspension and Steering (A4)
- Ability to demonstrate current, industry-relevant technical skills
- Basic computer proficiency (email, word processing, data entry)
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in Automotive Systems Technology, Transportation Systems Technology, or a related field with a minimum of 4 years of experience
- Previous teaching or training experience in automotive technology
- Experience working with both high school students and adult learners
- Familiarity with Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs and workforce development initiatives
- Experience preparing students for industry certification exams
