Position Overview
Instructors in the pool may be called to cover temporary or part-time openings. Assignments vary in duration; positions are not guaranteed. Focus on preparing students for careers in the automotive service and repair industry. Emphasis on creating a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for diverse student populations.
Essential Functions
- Deliver effective classroom and lab instruction using appropriate methods and materials
- Prepare, grade, and provide feedback on assignments and exams
- Advise, assist, and evaluate students; maintain office hours
- Participate in program development, planning, curriculum evaluation, and policy development
- Maintain accurate student records and currency in subject matter
- Communicate effectively and professionally in English
- Uphold standards of professional conduct and ethics
Requirements
- Education + Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree + 2 years professional experience OR Associate’s degree + 6 years professional experience OR equivalent combination
- Certifications:
- ASE Master Automotive Technician with L1
- Equity and Inclusion:
- Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds
- Desirable Qualifications:
- Bureau of Automotive Repair Instructor Certification (required for AUTO-239A training)
- State Smog License; Brake, Lamp Inspector/Adjuster licenses
- Auto technician experience (shop management, emissions repair, diagnostics)
- Familiarity with online pedagogy and teaching technologies
- Ability to engage students in active and self-directed learning

- Must complete employment eligibility verification and criminal background check
- TB risk assessment required; medical certificate if new to California academic employment
- Designated Disaster Service Worker; required training and emergency response
- Part-time faculty represented by United Professors of Marin (UPM/AFT 1610)
- Participation in CalSTRS possible
