Automotive Technology - GM/ASEP (A.A.S.)
About the role
The General Motors Automotive Service Educational Program (ASEP) is designed for students interested in starting their careers at a General Motors dealership or an AC-Delco TSS service center. The GM-ASEP program leads to a two-year A.A.S. degree using curriculum designed by GM and Metropolitan Community College. It involves attending classroom lectures 40% and laboratory work 60% on GM products at MCC, and also cooperative work experience at a General Motors dealership or an AC-Delco TSS service center.
Responsibilities
- Earn while you learn, which can help cover part of the program cost.
- Receive advanced and specialized training on the latest General Motors equipment and service procedures.
- Gain up to 80% of General Motors warranty credentials.
- Participate in paid cooperative work experience with a General Motors dealership.
- Graduates receive an Associate in Applied Science degree with options to transfer to a four-year college, and prepare for ASE certification.
Requirements
- Be 18 years of age or older by the time of the first dealer work assignment.
- Meet MCC general admission and academic requirements.
- Sponsorship by a General Motors dealership or an AC-Delco TSS service center and hold a valid driver's license.
- Full-time status and continuous enrollment and employment with the dealership or AC-Delco TSS service center.
Qualifications
To be eligible for the GM-ASEP program, applicants must:
- Have a valid driver's license.
- Meet MCC general admission and academic requirements.
- Be sponsored by a General Motors dealership or an AC-Delco TSS service center.
- Be 18 years of age or older by the time of the first dealer work assignment.
Skills
Basic mechanical aptitude, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail are essential. Knowledge of basic automotive systems and components is helpful.

Pay
Total cost of the two-year program is approximately $13,000, including books but not personal tools (a recommended tool list is in the GM-ASEP packet) that cost approximately $1,500-$2,000. Discounts for tools will be available through college and dealership contacts.
Schedule
Students rotate between the MCC-Longview campus and their sponsoring dealership or an AC-Delco TSS service center in 8-week cycles.
