Requirements
Vocational/Educational Requirement: high school diploma or GED/HSE.
- Experience: Automotive Technician I – minimum of one year of closely related, full‑time equivalent experience.
- Experience: Automotive Technician II – minimum of two years of closely related, full‑time equivalent experience.
Qualifications
Special Certifications and Licenses:
- Valid driver’s license and driving record compliant with City Driving Standards.
- Must obtain a Class A CDL and ASE Certification within the probationary period (both Technician I and II).
- Technician I must also obtain Refrigeration Recovery and Storage Certification and basic Automotive Tire Service (ATS) within 12 months of hire.
Special Requirements:
- May be expected to work hours in excess of normally scheduled hours in response to short‑term department needs and/or City‑wide emergencies.
- Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties.
Skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Cummins Insite, Ford IDS, Allison and Bendix diagnostic software.
- Experience with Hydraulic Systems.
- Experience with Trash Truck bodies.
- Experience with Compressed Natural Gas and other alternative fuels (a plus).
- Experience with Fire and EMS Apparatus (a plus).
- ASE certification (a big plus).
