About the role

The Automotive Technician position requires applicants to have a valid state drivers license, a safe driving record, and at least two years of unsupervised experience driving passenger cars or larger. Applicants must also successfully complete Postal Service Test 943 and Test 944 to demonstrate their knowledge and ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and make minor and major repairs to automotive systems.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair issues with electrical/ignition systems, including alternators, batteries, voltage regulators, starter motors, ignition and lighting systems, indicating devices, electronic computer enhanced components, sensors, and starting aids.
  • Repair and maintain fuel delivery systems, including fuel pumps, turbochargers, superchargers, intercoolers, fuel injectors, and the interface of the fuel system with electronic controls.
  • Ensure compliance with emission control systems and environmental quality regulations.
  • Perform maintenance and repairs on engine systems, including valves, piston assemblies, engine bearings, cylinders, cylinder heads, cylinder blocks, crankshafts, compression ignition, and cooling systems.
  • Oversee the operation and maintenance of power train systems, such as clutches, universal joints, manual and computer enhanced automatic transmission systems, differentials, and drive axles.
  • Inspect and adjust suspension systems, including standard and computerized/air-controlled suspension, and standard and power assisted steering, as well as wheel alignment.

Requirements

Must be able to communicate in and understand the English language with or without a reasonable disability accommodation under the Rehabilitation Act.

Qualifications

Less than high school education level.
