About the role
The Automotive Maintenance Technician supports the FMS Shop Chief in performing automotive services on a variety of Army motor vehicles. Duties include routine repairs, diagnosing mechanical failures, and maintaining records.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine repairs and maintenance on heavy duty mobile equipment, combat, tactical, and automotive vehicles.
- Support the FLARNG Haines City, Florida FMS Shop Chief in performing automotive services.
- Annotate all service support work on proper service documents.
- Complete maintenance and repair documentation.
- Track parts usage and maintenance history.
- Use Army maintenance management systems and work orders.
- Change oil, filters, fluids, belts, and hoses.
- Lubricate moving parts and inspect components for wear.
- Conduct safety inspections and operational checks.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic problems.
- Use diagnostic computers, scan tools, multimeters, and testing equipment.
- Identify causes of vehicle malfunctions and recommend repairs.
- Repair or replace engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, suspension, and driveline components.
- Service diesel and gasoline-powered vehicles.
- Repair electrical systems, batteries, alternators, starters, and wiring.
- Perform welding and fabrication when required.
- Follow Army technical manuals and maintenance standards.
- Adhere to environmental and hazardous-material handling procedures.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Use proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
Requirements
- At least 12 months experience or training using common hand and power tools and a small variety of test and measurement devices to make mechanical repairs.
- Experience removing, adjusting, replacing, cleaning, and installing a variety of parts, components, and accessories.
- Basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic theory applying to vehicles; and skill to replace, fit, install, and make adjustments.
- Understanding of the makeup and operation of the various individual systems maintained and their interrelationships.
- Ability to read and interpret parts lists, manufacturers' repair manuals, diagrams, and electrical schematics.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Analytical skills.
- Experience using hand and power tools to replace and repair parts.
- High school diploma or GED, ASE certification, and more than 3 years of experience as a Service Technician or Automotive Technician.
- Understanding of and ability to use diagnostic equipment.
- Possess basic experience in performing routine auto maintenance tasks.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Physical Job Requirements

- Frequently lifts and moves heavier items with the assistance of other workers or with lifting devices such as jacks, hoists, and cranes.
- May be required to work from ladders or work platforms at varying heights.
