Automotive Shop Porter & QC Tech

About the role

The Swiss Army Knife Position (AKA: Not Glamorous, But Essential) involves keeping the shop clean and organized, cleaning bathrooms, handling scrap metal and trash, organizing parts for technicians, performing quality control test drives after repairs, assisting technicians, answering phones, and checking in vehicles. The role requires basic automotive knowledge and a willingness to perform physical work while learning and advancing in a busy independent shop.

Responsibilities

• Keep the shop clean and organized
• Clean lobby and bathrooms
• Handle scrap metal and trash
• Organize parts for technicians
• Perform quality control test drives after repairs
• Assist technicians when they need an extra hand
• Put parts in the right place at the right time
• Answer phones and help check in vehicles as needed

Requirements

• Basic automotive knowledge (know a brake rotor from a serpentine belt)
• Understanding that clean shops lead to productivity and higher earnings
• Organized with a mind like a steel trap
• Self‑starter who doesn’t need constant direction
• Good with customers when the situation calls for it
• Desire to learn and advance
• Comfortable with physical work (lifting, bending, standing all day)
• Able to start ASAP
• Ideal for current lube techs, high school automotive students, B/C level techs, or car enthusiasts ready to level up
• Not suitable for those seeking a purely customer‑facing role, individuals with zero automotive experience, or anyone unwilling to do grunt work
