Automotive Service Technician

Major Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate proficiency in the repair and diagnosis of, with some assistance: Engines, Power Train to include differentials, transmissions, clutches, drive shafts, Electrical systems including starters and alternators, HVAC systems, Steering & Suspension systems, Electronics to include ECM's, PCM’s, ECU's, sensors etc.
  • Perform all levels of diagnosis and repair on automobile and light truck vehicles
  • Perform all levels of preventive maintenance services
  • Identify warranty repairs and document on repair order
  • Maintain clean work area and follow all safety policies
  • Road test vehicles when necessary to diagnose malfunctions or to ensure that they are working properly.
  • Provide and use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and measuring instruments, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches.
  • Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other important parts to ensure that they are in proper operating condition.
  • Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries
  • Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers, and pressure gauges.
  • Perform mechanical and general appearance reconditioning of equipment for "trade-ins" and prepare new equipment for delivery.
  • Other projects and tasks as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications

  • A valid driver’s license is required
  • A valid PA Safety Inspection License and PA Emissions Inspector license is required.
  • Some practical experience with automotive repair and service is required
  • Vocational/Technical or certification preferred
  • Specialized training in the repair and replacement of vehicle components is a plus
  • Proficiency in the use of shop tools required
  • Basic computer skills required for data entry into Dealer Management Systems.
