Automotive Mechanic Fleet Truck Maintenance

Key Responsibilities

  • Preventative Maintenance: Conduct regular inspections, oil changes, tire rotations, and brake inspections to minimize downtime and extend vehicle longevity.
  • Diagnostics & Repair: Use advanced diagnostic tools and software to troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
  • Specialized Fleet Service: Maintain and repair specialized equipment used in HVAC and plumbing, including hydraulic pumps, compressors, and specialized vehicle climate control systems.
  • Safety & Compliance: Perform DOT inspections and ensure all vehicles comply with federal, state, and local safety and environmental regulations.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain detailed service histories and maintenance logs for each unit in the fleet, including tracking parts inventory and warranties.
  • Field Service: Provide occasional roadside assistance or emergency field repairs for disabled vehicles.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or GED required; vocational training or an associate degree in automotive/diesel technology is highly preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 1 - 3 years of experience in fleet maintenance or commercial truck repair.
  • Certifications: Valid driver’s license with a clean record (CDL helpful). ASE Certification (Automotive Service Excellence) is preferred but not required.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with diagnostic scanners, welding/fabrication equipment, and basic computer software for maintenance tracking.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 75 lbs, work in confined spaces, and stand or kneel for extended periods in various weather conditions.
