About the role
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is seeking an Automotive Mechanic to join the Butler County Maintenance Organization. This role involves performing essential maintenance and repair work on various vehicles, construction equipment, and tools to ensure safe and reliable operations.
Responsibilities
- Equipment Repair: Perform maintenance and repair work on gasoline and diesel vehicles, trucks, tractors, and construction machinery.
- System Diagnostics: Carry out mechanical checks and tune-ups, replace parts, and complete repairs on cooling, suspension, electrical, fuel, brake, steering, and driveline systems.
- Safety Inspections: Conduct official state safety and emissions inspections and complete required records and paperwork.
- Field Service: Provide emergency roadside service and perform repairs at field locations when necessary.
- Parts Management: Obtain needed supplies, provide OEM information, and maintain accurate equipment records.
- Workplace Safety: Maintain a safe work area, follow proper procedures, and take proactive steps to prevent accidents.
Qualifications
- Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Four years of experience in the automotive mechanic trade; or completion of an approved apprenticeship; or Any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Special Requirements: Valid driver's license and Pennsylvania Class 1 Inspection Mechanic certificate.
Benefits
Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $49,819.00 (before taxes).

Schedule
Full-time employment. Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Travel, overtime, and shift work required. Work hours are subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs.
